9 teens appear for gang rape

2013-02-22 21:28

Bloemfontein - Nine youths, including five minors, appeared in the Heilbron Magistrate's Court on Friday in connection with the gang rape of a 24-year-old woman, said Free State police.

Police spokesperson Peter Kareli said the case against the boys was postponed to 1 March as the boys did not have legal representation.

The five minors were released into the custody of their guardians.

Police said the youths, aged between 15 and 19, were arrested after an attack on a couple returning from a family gathering in the Phiritona area.

A group of boys assaulted the man and woman, demanding money and cellphones.

The woman's husband escaped and ran for help.

The police were contacted and a search for the woman begun.

Kareli said the woman was later found near an open field.

She said she had been taken to a quarry and repeatedly raped by the youths.

Little mongrels! They are born without respect, and will die without ever knowing what it is. All they know is how to take what is not theirs, without fear of consequences. They need to be squashed like bugs, the mangy rodents!

      gail.hayesbean - 2013-02-23 10:20

I would like to add to your questions. WHERE are the FATHERS of these boys? The men sow the seeds and move on leaving the women to raise boys on their own and this is half the problem with abuse of women and rape. There are no men in the home to ensure that the boys know their place and their responsibilities to mothers sisters cousins etc. The mothers are frequently working all hours to make ends meet while the boys are left alone to amuse themselves with no example or leadership from elders such as parents. Don't blame the women's league alone - look to your own failure to take responsibility for the children you have fathered. The born frees have been taught in school about their rights but they have nobody teaching them responsibility towards others rights. ANCYL encourages acts of violence against anyone who attempts to demand respect and integrity for others whose rights they believe are unfounded.

  • Charmaine Gray - 2013-02-22 22:17

these guardians / parents of these minors need to be punished as well! take control of your children - discipline in the home! these boys are not to old for a good old fashioned hiding!!!

  • Erna Speed Glitterbug - 2013-02-22 22:52

If you can commit the crime you must be old enough to take the punishment for the crime. These youths were already in there custodians care when they committed the crime. So - what now? They are back were they started! Obviously with NO supervision. S.A. we have youths that's going to grow up to become BAD criminals!

  • Perfume - 2013-02-22 23:03

The law needs change, the country needs change and we all must stand up and fight for our rights. Dont sit back and talk all day, rather act than wait for someone who doesnt know what they stand for. ANCWL,we need your support. MR President, please sir...Hear our cry,our mothers, sisters and young daughters need u most

      Fundukululukunjakunne Why Cano - 2013-02-23 06:13

See your problem is that u always always leaving males out. You think that young boys and men do not need help too? Am sure there is more ladies as ministers than there is men yet some things that one though the mother could fight for they are not fighting for them. News flash crimes such as rape affect both male and female they are human rights violation and both gender must work together to end this.

  • Shaun Matuwane - 2013-02-22 23:26

Mr President, with all due respect sir...The Law needs to change. Its not working for us. Think of our beautiful mothers, daughters and sisters. U need to go back to the drawing board

      Desi Moodley - 2013-02-23 05:53

even Zulu culture would kill these criminals for what they are doing to our Mother,Sisters and daughters

      gail.hayesbean - 2013-02-23 10:28

Actually he needs to get away from the drawing board because he has no self control and is the worst example of a man to lead our country. Not satisfied with what he has he is always TAKING MORE AND MORE, women and money belonging to taxpayers including everyone on these boards and domestic workers etc which should be going to educating and teaching the youth about their responsibilities toawrds women and others rights. PLEASE VOTE FOR ANYONE BUT ANC IF YOU ARE AGAINST VIOLENCE AND ABUSE AGAINST EVERYONE.

  • Lucky Chalale - 2013-02-22 23:55

Wht can we do if de governmemt says corporal punishmnet is nt allowed. U can't even touch yo own child.I'm frm Heilbron n dis so called underage hu are out on parental care are nt shy 2 say dey are goin 2 rape again

      gail.hayesbean - 2013-02-23 10:36

Ignore a leader who can't set an example himself. Ignore the law and mete out the necessary punishment bearing in mind that the punishment should not result in the child being hospitalised. Teach boys to respect their mothers and sisters in the home before they need corporal punishment like before the age of 6. Always take your parenting other half's side even when you disagree and then talk to the other parent and get them to see the rror of their ways privately and if necessary the parent meting out the discipline must apologise to the child. All children are different so corporal won't work for some - the punishment can include labor or time out etc.

  • Aasiyah Sattar - 2013-02-23 01:57

the way rape cases are going the country should be in a state of emergency, prison is over populated just as the country is. if teenagers are raping and we still dont have the presidents attention ? Jay Z does it have to happen to u for u open ur eyes. but then again ur countless women and their kids are protected behind the wall u have built, i wonder how many people needs to die or women's diginity stolen before action gets taken, people who is meant to protect and serve are now rapist, guess those who live behind high walls with extreme security and bodygurads hasnt stepped onto our ground of pain.Death is no longer is a hurtful situation as we have a goverment willing to replace our own people will foreigners seeking refuge..I applaude Mob justice the only system that seems to work for our country,

    Corporal Punishment

  • Fundukululukunjakunne Why Cano - 2013-02-23 05:57

OH God so was it wrong for Oscar to keep a gun or any body for that matter hearing all this. Please ladies these crimes violate human rights and even men also get affected by then too. Rapists should be shot. Rape should be categoriesed as premeditated attempted murder carrying a death sentence following a fair trial.

      gail.hayesbean - 2013-02-23 10:43

I do not agree with the death penalty for rapists despite the violation suffered by the woman who is raped. Since castration renders them a eunuch perhaps we should start with that, however rape is not about sex but about power over women and might not be sufficient deterrent to a rapist. They should be branded for life across the forehead "RAPIST" as well.

  • leoni - 2013-02-23 06:02

    Death penalty for rapist!

  • Fundukululukunjakunne Why Cano - 2013-02-23 06:03

The sad part is these goons as a fact were given birth too by a woman. It is possible that a majority of em have been brought up by a single female probably she who gave birth to em. Could it be that the presence of responsible male figures for young boys is necessary? I think it may help prevent lots of young males from committing such death deserving crimes

  • Roy Chambal - 2013-02-23 06:21

I dnt even know why they keeping referring to this thugs as youth, at 15 & 19 yrs this are no you, this are Criminal man's they know how to attack people, they were so brave to attack a woman with her husband, they know to Rape, i dnt even know why whey were released on the parents custody bcoz by the sound of it this boys parents have no say on them can not control them, they should've remain in prison to meet other man inside - Dammit Disgusting, then i Blame it on Law

  • bill.mckimm.9 - 2013-02-23 07:59

Where's the ANCWL here? Too low profile? Too african? These are real animals and deserve the attention of those legal eagles in the Women's League. Most of the perpetrators were released without bail! Surely this is a risk to all women. They have gang raped once and have a strong probability to rape again. Not a whimper?

  • Andre Baartman - 2013-02-23 08:08

  • Erna Speed Glitterbug - 2013-02-23 09:08

Rape in S.A. is pre medidated MURDER and can not and may not be viewed and judged as rape only! With our high HIV infection rate - the first treatment they give a rape survivor is anti-retrovirals. If she survives the rape and the HIV, she also has her mental state to deal with. My sole would die a thousand deaths, every day, after such an ordeal.

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2013-02-23 11:04

I would call them mongrels but then again mongrels do not stoop that low. There are no words to describe these rapists....barbaric beasts, growing up in the wrong era. Maybe thats why our country is heading backswards....half of us trying to take us forwards and the other half going back to grasss roots.
