Rape is serious. It doesn't matter how old the victim is - what matters is that her/his rights and body have been violated. A R500 fine does not even penalize the perpetrator. This is a disgusting miscarriage of justice.

Wow ..R500 bail for a rape case...even if not proven at this point. Just wow.

Yes, rape is serious but who says he's guilty? You can talk about "violated" when the facts are presented in court.

The principle of the rule of law is that you are innocent until proven guilty. You can only be fined (penalised) if you have been found guilty. Bail is set to ensure that a person returns to court so that the case can be heard - it is not a fine. Everyone knows where the ALLEGED perpetrator is and therefor the chances of him not appearing in court are slim thus the low bail. The statement was rather a disgusting misunderstanding of the legal process in South Africa. I know that rape is serious and that is one of the utmost criminal offenses, but an allegation of rape does not make a person guilty. If is was, then Bless, if someone who dislikes your father or brother or son or husband can just go and file a complaint of rape against him and then according to your sound principles one of your loved ones will have to pay for an alleged rape - will you like that?

Abuse of power, using your status to commit hideous crimes like rape, murder, fraud is tarnishing the name of our beloved ANC if its not already tarnished, not in my name. Depriving the needy that voted for this revolutionary government basic education, clean water, sanitation and opportunities to create a better life for all. Sisulu,Mandela, Tambo, Dube etc must be turning on their graves.

Clearly you have not been following the case. You have pronounced him guilty before his day in court, typical!!!
