ANC goes to court over Tlokwe

2013-07-23 08:55

Johannesburg - The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria will hear an application by the ANC on Tuesday to have the unseating of its Tlokwe mayor Maphetle Maphetle declared invalid.

The African National Congress wanted a council meeting that saw Democratic Alliance councillor Annette Combrink voted in as mayor nullified.

The ANC did not recognise Combrink as mayor and said Maphetle still held the post.

On 2 July, Combrink was voted in as the new mayor for the second time since November, unseating Maphetle.

The next day the ANC's North West provincial disciplinary committee expelled 14 of its councillors who voted to unseat Maphetle. They were also removed as Tlokwe councillors.

On 10 July, the ANC served court papers on 48 Tlokwe municipal councillors.

The documents were served on 26 ANC councillors, 19 DA, two Freedom Front Plus councillors, and one from the Congress of the People.

ANC is just so pathetic. These idiots just don't accept defeat. They have a serious misconception of success & defeat.I doubt if they'll be able to vacate the union building when Malema takes over next year.

      Kuno Tschumi - 2013-07-23 09:16

not that malema will take over... the cANCer will make sure by then malema sits in prison cleaning toilets... which is needed seeing all the sh.... going down the drain in this country

      Makaveli Amaru Shakur - 2013-07-23 09:20

@Kuno,just so u know.Malema has many supporters than DA,Agang and Cope all combined and he stands a chance of winning next year's elections. So brace yourself mate.

      Poloyatonki Kgosi - 2013-07-23 09:44

If they refuse to vacate the union building when Malema takes over, we will burn Luthuli house down....

      jeremy thorpe - 2013-07-23 09:45

Hi Makaveli, I'm afraid you're blowing hot air! Malema hasn't even registered EFF as a political party yet - and it's questionable if he'll be able to do so if he's found guilty of fraud or corruption. Even if EFF is registered, my prediction for next year is EFF 1%, Agang 3%, IFP 3%, Cope 4%, DA 32%, ANC 55% and the rest 2%.

      Makaveli Amaru Shakur - 2013-07-23 10:09

      Well said poloyatonki

      Poloyatonki Kgosi - 2013-07-23 10:49

jeremy I think Agang and EFF will beat DA next year.

      JamesMWood - 2013-07-23 11:18

@polydonkey, why wait? Go burn it down now coward!

      Bob Pacak - 2013-07-23 11:32

Poloy why not burn the country down while you are at it

      Armstrong Dreadnaught - 2013-07-23 11:38

My prediction for next year...... DA 35% EFF 10% Egang 5% anc 45% Others 5%

      Poloyatonki Kgosi - 2013-07-23 11:52

This is how it will be: Agang 30% EFF 20% DA 10% anc 35% Others 5%

  • warren-rodel - 2013-07-23 09:12

So unfair that internal ANC affairs use national Tax money? Marikana can't afford it - so what gives ANC priority for this? Take take take just like the parasites you ANC folk are!!!! ANC = THIEF

  • Sekhumise Kgaugelo Kgaugelo - 2013-07-23 09:12

    Anc is corrupt

      Armstrong Dreadnaught - 2013-07-23 11:43

anc is corrupt, boycott the anc!

  • Winifred Watson - 2013-07-23 09:16

So, DESPERATE they are to keep a CORRUPT official in his job, that measures like this are taken. Why not let this be a lesson to other officials in other municipalities. Then again, the ANC will never learn to listen to the voices of the people, they only run on arrogance and ego's and absolutely nothing else.

  • Darryl Maze - 2013-07-23 09:20

This is the only time the dumb corrupt ANC will ever go to court. It was a fair vote you idiots. Your own members saw the corruption happening and did the right thing. Now you wanna put this fat corrupt mayor back???? WTF!!!! Thought Zuma said he wanted to get rid of corruption along with the rest of the ANC......guess not. Seems theywant corruption to thrive in the ANC. To you ANC supporters please open your eyes and see that the ANC cares more about having corruption than caring about using that money they steal which is meant to build better lives for you.

  • Sontshatsha Kwezi - 2013-07-23 09:21

The pathetic ANC is protecting their corrupt mayor at our costs.

      Armstrong Dreadnaught - 2013-07-23 11:47

The anc are panicking! Boycott the corrupt anc!

  • Richard Scully - 2013-07-23 09:21

The more corrupt power they see they are losing the more desperate the ANC are to grab onto every string of it

  • Francois Van Der Merwe - 2013-07-23 09:26

Lets just hope that sanity will prevail. If the court dismisses the application, democracy is the winner. This must be a lesson to the ANC. South Africans are coming gatvol of corrupt government officials. The ANC must get their house in order. No more cadre employment, no more corruption, no more Jacob "Showerhead" Zuma. I just pray that JZ will loose the "spy tape" saga in court today.

  • Adiel De Villiers - 2013-07-23 09:29

So lets say the DA wins the next election, will they have the same attitude. This is not how democracy works. dis is so ridiculous. if you want the job, then do the work.

      Paul Kershaw - 2013-07-23 09:40

Lets see if the DA retains this ward after this court case, then we'll soon see how they behave and what work they do. That'll be an eye opener for many people after this. Tlokwe is now a microcosm for the rest of the country.

      Sphe Ndlovu - 2013-07-23 09:46

To be realistic, DA will not win the elections. On News24 one would believe nothing has been achieved since 1994 but that is not true. Many people will vote ANC because they now have excess to electricity, education, sanitation, land, health care better roads, and many more.

      Francois Van Der Merwe - 2013-07-23 10:19

@Sphe. I agree with you totally on the successes of the ANC of the last 20 years. All the things that you have mentioned are at the cost of the tax payer and we have become a socialist state. Every single year more people are becoming dependant on the state for a social grant. The quality of a Grade 12 certificate is so low that our youth is unemployable. We need a new government that will introduce opportunities in the economy for our youth to succeed. A new government that will "compensate" citizens in the form of opportunities due to their discipline and hard work. A government that can tell their citizens that the opportunities are available but only accessible after quality education and hard work. A government that can tell their citizens that the time of demanding is over. A government that can tell their citizens that their future depends on quality education and hard work. A government that can tell their citizens that living in a shack is not on, but you need to get out of the shack with your contributions to South Africa.

      Gomolemo Martins - 2013-07-23 17:33

Their corruption will be more than ANC,so ANC will rule SA again,we don't want racism again Viva Anc Viva!!!!

  • Thomas Fowler - 2013-07-23 09:34

bugger off ANC losers!!!go cry to your f@E$#n mother!!!

  • patrick.masseyhicks - 2013-07-23 09:35

He's removed by his own. He's useless. He's a thief. They want a useless thief reinstated. Showing their true colours. Viva corruption

  • Cobus Van Staden - 2013-07-23 09:45

    Power hungry corrupted fat cats

  • Happy Moloto - 2013-07-23 09:46

A right hook, spinning kick and a boiling water can remove this Maphetle guy from office. maybe we should resort to that.

      nu_un_clear - 2013-07-23 10:14

Don't forget to add a nice uppercut, just to make sure he doesn't get back up.

  • Mkhuseli Njamela - 2013-07-23 10:07

What happened to our democracy, people has spoken, why are they going to court ?

  • CALAMITYSA - 2013-07-23 10:18

Maphetle Maphetle is corrupt - What is ANC policy?? Refer others like Zuma, Block, (The ANC in the Northern Cape will not suspend its provincial chairperson John Block, who is facing several charges of fraud and corruption.)Joemat-Petterson (Cabinet member Tina Joemat-Pettersson says she will pay back the R150 000 for flights as requested by public protector Thuli Madonsela this week.)

  • Silvia Van Eck - 2013-07-23 10:45

I hope the court tells them to take a hike. As far as I am concerned the vote was legal. The ANC councillors were only expelled after the vote and I bet you that they only got expelled because they voted against their own mayor!!! The ANC should be ashamed of themselves!!!

  • Jacqui Daane Van Rensburg - 2013-07-23 10:58

What kind of democracy do we have here?. Is this what is waiting for us if they really start losing?.

  • Tom Hudson - 2013-07-23 11:34

It goes to show that the ANC will not hand over power if they lose the democratic vote

      Armstrong Dreadnaught - 2013-07-23 11:57

Then they have me to account for!

  • Albert Martin - 2013-07-23 12:15

    Eish? You!!!!!!

  • Tommo Too - 2013-07-23 12:43

They have absolutely no idea what democracy is about. What will they do when voted out of parliament? ??

      Darryl Maze - 2013-07-23 13:54

Well Tommo the first thing they'll do is go look for the thousands that voted against them, then they will threaten them. The ANC will go to court and try to claim the elections were unfair and would want a revote after they have threatend all those voters who voted against them.
