Durban – ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala on Saturday said KwaZulu-Natal was ready for next week’s National General Council.

Saturday marked the first day of the KZN Provincial General Council which is taking place at the Coastlands Hotel in South Beach, Durban.

Zikalala said KZN was making final preparation for the party’s NGC 2015 taking place between October 8 and 11 in Johannesburg.

“We have engaged extensively on discussion documents through workshops and regional cadre forums as well as through public debates.”

Zikalala said media transformation formed part of the debates.

“We also had an unmediated forum on land redistribution and rural development. We also had a lot of participation from the agricultural sector.

“We will consolidate on all these inputs through discussions today [Saturday].”

Zikalala said Saturday’s programme included a political address, a debate on balances of forces, commissions on policy areas and concludes on Sunday by consolidating resolutions which will be submitted to the NGC.

ANC provincial chairperson Senzo Mchunu is expected to deliver the opening address and NEC member Jeff Radebe will present a paper on balances of forces.

“We have 513 branch delegates who are attending. KZN remains the majority because we bring a sizeable delegation.

“For the NGC, there will be a total of 559 attending which is made up of 513 branch delegates, 13 members form the provincial executive committee and representatives from regions,” said Zikalala.
