Johannesburg - An ANC member and Vaal businessman has been taken by unknown men in Pakistan mere hours before he was due to fly back to his family in South Africa.

Arshad Ali’s wife told Eyewitness News she was not coping following her husband’s capture by four men on his way to Lahore Airport.

Ali was taken last Tuesday. According to The Star he had gone to Pakistan to fetch his elderly mother and bring her back to South Africa.

Him and his mother were apparently being transported by his brother when they were stopped at a roadblock. The roadblock was operated by Pakistan's anti-terrorism and anti-smuggling unit and the country's intelligence service, reported The Star.

His wife says his family believes he was not kidnapped but rather taken by unknown men in full view of Pakistan's police.

Ali is the ANC’s chairperson in Meyerton.
