Johannesburg - The ANC in Gauteng will send 6 000 volunteers to Sicelo in Midvaal on Sunday to campaign for the 2014 elections.

"The volunteer campaign is aimed at mobilising residents of Midvaal to ensure that we remove the DA-controlled municipality," provincial spokesperson Dumisa Ntuli said in a statement on Friday.

"This will be show-cased by the massive group of volunteers marshalling the streets of Midvaal."

The ANC had a "justifiable case" because the DA was not delivering services in Midvaal and development was non-existent.

"In Midvaal, development and service delivery is purely for white suburbs and many black areas are still neglected with no development at all," said Ntuli.

The ANC's provincial executive committee, led by chairperson Paul Mashatile, would accompany the volunteers.

Last month the ANC in Gauteng announced its 6 000-member Moses Kotane volunteer brigade. President Jacob Zuma said at the time that next year's national elections were in the hands of the ANC's volunteers.

He said the party did not want anything less than a two-thirds majority.
