Johannesburg - ANC Youth League Limpopo members have interdicted four branches from attending the organisation's provincial congress, but this has not stopped the already delayed congress from going ahead on Sunday.

The interdict was served on four branches from Sekhukhune by members unhappy with how delegates were elected to attend the congress, provincial task team spokesperson Onicca Moloi said.

"The interdict is not necessarily on the congress but on the four branches... four branches cannot stop the congress. Congress is going ahead."

The four branches had been removed from the congress and the ANC's legal team was dealing with the matter.

Moloi said on Sunday morning that congress, being held outside Tzaneen, was currently in plenary. It was mean to get underway on Friday, but was then moved to Saturday.

The ANCYL was disbanded by the mother body in 2013, replacing the national leadership and provincial leaderships with task teams. The national ANCYL was yet to hold its own elective conference.

Last year, it scheduled an elective conference but at the last minute changed it to consultative conference, sparking outraged from some delegates.

The ANCYL national task team was disbanded at the end of the conference and provincial leaders were meant to help prepare for the elective conference.

The national elective conference is expected to be held in June.
