Johannesburg - An ANC Youth League delegate from the Eastern Cape reportedly gave birth on a bus on Thursday morning.

She was travelling to Midrand, Gauteng, for the league's national elective conference, according to a report.

OR Tambo ANCYL secretary Mvuzo Mxenge reportedly confirmed the incident, but declined to provide further details, reported the Daily Dispatch.

He said the privacy of the new mother needed to be protected and that the delegates were close to Johannesburg.

Another delegate said no one knew the woman was due to give birth, otherwise she would have been asked to stay behind.

The league's long-awaited national congress is due to take place from September 4 to 6 at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.
