ANC's Luthuli House evacuated

2012-11-26 16:28

Johannesburg - The ANC's headquarters, the Star newspaper and several other buildings in downtown Johannesburg were evacuated on Monday following a bomb scare, an official said.

"Yes, because of the bomb scare at the Star and the [close] proximity of the two buildings [the Star and Luthuli House], the ANC had to request its staff to evacuate the building," said African National Congress spokesperson Keith Khoza.

Scheduled meetings were postponed.

Khoza said Sauer Street was closed for about an hour while police combed the Star building.

The nearby housing department and library were also evacuated.

Gauteng police spokeperson Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said he had no immediate information and would provide details when they became available.

Reports that Independent Newspaper buildings in Durban and Cape Town were also evacuated could not immediately be confirmed.

      bradh.quaide - 2012-11-26 16:45

Lol, the star? Who still reads the star news paper? And why blow up a news paper, boycotting papers seem to work really well when you don't like what they write...

      morne.demeillon - 2012-11-26 16:45

Or it could be MK, APLA......

      george.anderson.796569 - 2012-11-26 16:46

The anc did it pre 94

      morne.demeillon - 2012-11-26 16:56

@Bradh, lots of people read the Star- and Independent news paper agencies, especially black folks. This is merely a communist act, due to the fact that the spread the word of how corrupt our president and other high ranking ANC members are and off coarse the ANC does like this one bit, so they divert to these type of tactics.

      danie.strydom.7 - 2012-11-26 17:08

It's a fake report. Someone found the Jacob Zuma tapes lying around and said : "Wow, this is dynamite stuff". :)

  • bennie.kruger.5 - 2012-11-26 16:31

      trevor.myburgh.12 - 2012-11-26 16:43

If Winnie farted, half of down town Jo'burg would have gone down.

      fourhundredkg.bobbejaan - 2012-11-26 18:44

Ja. Winnie is da turd force!

      rocky.bell.98 - 2012-11-27 06:55

Ja, winnie-the-pooh must take the blame.

      nkululeko.k.mpungose - 2012-11-27 09:31

You mother f&^*^kers used make cruel jokes about Winnie while Mendela was in prison. When i was a caddy I used to listen to white guys making Winnie Mandela jokes. See, Winnie endured what your mothers could not take in one day. So leave her alone and joke about your Zilles and Verwoeds. Nx!

      rocky.bell.98 - 2012-11-27 09:47

Where there's "smoke" there's fire. Winni-the-pooh must have had a Stompie again. With matches and tyres even Lootfree House can be liberated.

  • kala.bafazi - 2012-11-26 16:31

I think someone in the anc has taken this infighting to the next level. We all know who the bomb planters were pre 1994.

  • gary.desousa.7 - 2012-11-26 16:33

If you mix with those kind of people, bombs, shootings, looting and violence are common.

  • frost.frost.980 - 2012-11-26 16:34

Ok, there goes another 200mil security upgrade for the ANC...

      jacques.smit - 2012-11-27 11:00

lol, only 200mil?? the spend that on JZ alone.. try adding an extra zero...

  • Phelamanga - 2012-11-26 16:43

It's a scare tactic to make people believe that the ANC is under attack. Or it could be that The Star has really cut too close to the bone in a yet-to-be-released corruption story.

  • rohin.jadin - 2012-11-26 16:47

bomb scare in the star building - Luthuli house evacuated as a precaution ... due to its proximity. ANC was not the the target.

      henry.justice.372 - 2012-11-26 16:57

And who out there has it for the Star/media? Only the anc lot

  • butch.poulter - 2012-11-26 16:56

  • michael.bushes.5 - 2012-11-26 17:00

Are these newspapers informing the public to much for the ANC's liking?

Oh Christ, this is the one that has been overplayed more than any other. It gets annoying having to evacuate the building and end up losing on 3 hours of work due to some sick psycho playing a twisted joke.

Like the comment above ? Very, very, very stupid.

  • sipeto - 2012-11-26 17:21

Dont be fooled! Its a diversion tactic by the Joint Intelligence Command of the CIA; MOSSAD; M15 and KGB (If it still exists). Their objective is to service the dozens cameras and bugs inside Luthuli House prior to Mangaung as all of you know lots of stuff get to be discussed in there. They anticipated this outcome. It has got nothing to do with the Star.

  • werner.nel.712 - 2012-11-26 17:27

They should blow it up so that they can get a bit of their own medicine

  • eugene.muller.7 - 2012-11-26 18:13

  • charnelle.bester - 2012-11-26 21:06

Its probably Zuma's ego. Finally now we can blame 18 years of corruption.

      75sibusisomhlongo - 2012-11-26 22:25

hhahahahaha i knew it, i was wondering why so many comments but no one blaming Zuma this time and at last i got the answer

      nkululeko.k.mpungose - 2012-11-27 09:36

please do not forget to blame 100 years of apartheid when whites were looting RSA money. They are still looting in the private sector. You find whites with no matric earning more that black graduates. Thats how corrupt these people are.

  • 75sibusisomhlongo - 2012-11-26 22:48

people will blame Zuma again, thats what they always do when anything goes wrong, i think they do it even if they fail to satisfy their wives in bed. aggggg Zumatjie

  • willie.botha.9480 - 2012-11-27 06:24

The only noticed that the Star offices are too close to their offices. That is why the bomb did not go off.

  • kyle.buitendag - 2012-11-27 07:52

hahahaha, pity it was only a scare!!!! would luv to see that building crumble to the ground

  • malette.snyman - 2012-11-27 08:37

Ag shame, did they have to interrupt the entire staff's midmorning-pre-lunch-post-teatime-naps? Hope they were paid overtime!
