Johannesburg - The ANC's national disciplinary committee (NDC) has decided to lift former North West secretary Kabelo Mataboge's suspension from the party, 13 months before it was meant to end.

Mataboge was suspend in May 2013 for three years after he pleaded guilty to "prejudicing the integrity and repute of the ANC by impeding its activities and undermining its effectiveness as an organisation".

The NDC had received an application from secretary general Gwede Mantashe, at the request of officials on behalf of the party, to suspend the sanction against Mataboge, national spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said.

This application was also supported by the North West provincial executive committee.

"Having satisfied itself that comrade Mataboge was rehabilitated, had served almost two years of his three year suspension during which time he did not commit any act of misconduct contained in rule 25 of the ANC constitution, the NDC exercised its discretion to suspend the operation of the remainder of the sanction," said Kodwa.

"Accordingly, comrade Mataboge is entitled to resume his activities as an ANC member once he has paid the prescribed membership fee."
