ATM bombed in Cape Town

Cape Town - An automated telling machine was bombed in Lansdowne, Cape Town, on Wednesday morning, police said.

Lieutenant Colonel André Traut said the ATM, on the corner of Lansdowne and Crosscut roads, was blown up at 02:45.

No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.

It was unclear whether any money was taken.

"ATM bombings are regarded [as] high on our priority list, and every endeavour is made to apprehend those responsible," Traut said.

it amazes me that money that is completely insured gets given such a high priority (people hardly ever get injured in atm bombings) whilst farm murders and home robberies seem to be given a moderate priority..

      Piet - 2012-05-30 10:02

Moderate??? Please... They don't get any priority at all. The more farmers that get murdered, the happier the ANC are!

      Bheki - 2012-05-30 10:13

@Poloyatonki, I really can't believe this can happen in CT. It must have been a typing error. lol...

      Nosiphom - 2012-05-30 10:24

Why are we use this dumb incident of crime for mudslinging purposes? Why are we stooping this low? This is crime and we should not politisise it. Grow up people - we should not go around looking for opportunities to score cheap political points even where it is not warranted!

      Bob - 2012-05-30 10:32

Nosiphom, because we are sick of the crime and corruption this ANC encourages, who do you think is to blame for the lawless state of this country, it is exactly your attitude that is a large part of the problem we have, can't you see we are sick to death of this corrupt non functioning ANC government, their only mission is self enrichment.

      Mbali - 2012-05-30 10:39

Hehehe I honestly thought these things didn't happen in the mother city.

      Luviwe - 2012-05-30 11:16

We can be childish at times. I wonder how possible that we can look at issues for what they are.

  • anthro45 - 2012-05-30 09:49

Why is it unclear if any money was stolen? Is the safe open and empty or is it still locked?

  • Johann - 2012-05-30 10:10

      Matthew - 2012-05-30 11:08

Google.Anarchist cookbook you it yourself book. otherwise, where ever really, not unheard of to say at least.

      Gcwabe.KaMavovo - 2012-05-30 12:26

      Stolen from the mines.

      Zambezi - 2012-05-30 12:46

I think they getting it from the AWB!

  • Gcwabe.KaMavovo - 2012-05-30 12:25

I blame the mining industry. They are simply not controlling properly their explosives stock, and it's open season for thieves. A lot of these thieves have been trained by the mines to use these explosives, and in the end they use these skills for this criminal activity. Obtaining explosives simply shouldn't be this easy in SA.

  • Tankiso Mogoje - 2012-05-30 15:11

I blame security at mining towns,i worked in Welkom and usually when these people who are mining illegally when they are arrested enroute to the mines they always have these explosives.
