Abortion every 10 minutes in Eastern Cape

2012-06-12 10:01

Johannesburg - An abortion takes place every 10 minutes at Eastern Cape clinics, according to a report on Tuesday.

Pregnant schoolgirls, some as young as 12-years-old, were putting a strain on the Eastern Cape abortion clinics, The Times reported.

The Annual Surveys for Ordinary Schools for 2009-2010 report showed that of the 45 276 teenage pregnancies recorded, 8 420 were in the Eastern Cape.

Staff at the women's clinic at Dora Nginza Hospital in Port Elizabeth were seeing between 16 and 20 young women daily, according to the report.

Dozens were turned away because their pregnancy was too advanced and there were limited resources for a second-term abortion.

‘Kids quite blasé’

Many of the women then resorted to backstreet abortions, resulting in an increase in maternal deaths, The Times reported.

Jean Downey, the director of New Life Crisis Pregnancy Centre in Uitenhage told the newspaper: "The kids are quite blasé and this is scary."

"If you talk about HIV or abstinence, which is the repeated message of the department of education's programmes, they just switch off," Downey was quoted as saying.

Eastern Cape health spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo told the newspaper: "There is an increasing demand for abortion because teenagers do not want to use contraceptives."

"Instead, they use termination of pregnancy as a means of contraception."

Headline might as well read "Murder every 10 minutes in EC" - a shame.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 10:38

Tell me something Thando. If the removal of a foetus is murder then what does God do with the soul. And since God is the greatest abortionist of all, why, having allocated a soul to a blastocyst does he subsequently cares stuff all for it and kills it.

      eil33nn - 2012-06-12 10:46

@zaatheist, I know the bible says that and i still feel it is wrong to do abortions. If you want to live the life, you have to pay the price.

      hudayfah.newman - 2012-06-12 10:46

*yawn* ofcourse if i kill someone it's gods fault right zaatheist?

      Thando - 2012-06-12 10:57

@ZA_Sodomist - Murder is Murder and abortion is definitely murder. Why are you quoting the bible isn't it a meaningless book ( according to you ? ) I don't know what god does with the soul , I suspect it becomes reincarnated automatically. Soul or not the foetus is alive.

      DuToitCoetzee - 2012-06-12 11:13

The bible is like a flower. The bee use the nectar to make the sweetest honey. The spider use the same nectar to make it's poison. ......and you are the?

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 11:19

@Trurio Who taught you that full caps add any validity to you comment. It does not. Just makes you look angry, shouty and unintelligent. In stead of just angrily shout at me why don't you attempt to deal with the issues I raised? I suspect that you cannot and are flummoxed. Figures.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 11:21

@Thando Feel the Christian love. He calls me a sodomist(sic) because he cannot answer the issues I raised. You guys are just so, so easy.

      Jazzy - 2012-06-12 11:21

@zaatheist - please read the bible in context!

      Candice - 2012-06-12 11:25

I'm curious, critics need to provide an acceptable, objective moral standard by which they can criticize biblical morality. It is one thing to complain. It is another to offer a justification for the validity of the complaint. By what right and by what objective ethical standard do the critics offer moral condemnation against Biblical morals? This is a serious question that if not answered by the critics, renders the critics’ complaints moot. After all, you must first have a standard against which to measure good and bad and without a standard, no complaints can be legitimately offered.

      Adele - 2012-06-12 11:32

@eil33nn - in the end the unwanted children pay the price

      Jazzy - 2012-06-12 11:32

@zaatheist The context was that of calling down judgement on the Babylonians when the Israelites were in exile. It was not a God-blessed injunction! Mark 10:14 Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. Mt 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 11:34

zaatheist, do you think it would be wrong if I thought your mother should have aborted you? Because right now I'm starting to think that.

      MallyGold - 2012-06-12 11:35

Abortion is the murder of a life soon to be born. No one gave us the right to murder just because of our self-serving definition of when life is life. No one will tell me that humans have the power to create life by squirting their sperm into a vagina. No, life creation is a miracle, although we have become so blasé about it. Consensual lovemaking within a monogamous marriage is simply indicating that we both choose to take responsibility for our decision to accept the miracle of childbirth. Abortion is state-sponsored murder.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 11:35

zaatheist, I agree we should all be pro-choice... including you. A baby should have a choice to continue life so long as it's living. I guess if you gave the baby a choice, most of them would have chosen life.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 11:47

@Jazzy Ok. Who decides what is the context because there are more than 30000 Christian cults and they all have a different context.

      MallyGold - 2012-06-12 11:52

Ps 137:9 “Blessed is he who takes thy little ones and dashes them against a rock”. God is not telling Israel to smash the heads of their infants against rocks. Israel and their children were taken captive by the Babylonians. God is declaring his judgment on Babylon for its great sin in showing no mercy when it destroyed Jerusalem and took the Jews captive. God is stating that Babylon will be treated in the same manner that she treated Israel which occurred when the Medes and Persians conquered and ruined Babylon. And just as Babylon rejoiced in destroying Jerusalem, so her conquerors will rejoice in destroying her, including her innocent infants. God is not commanding barbaric behavior but simply stating what the future will be for Babylon.

      Dakey - 2012-06-12 12:08

@zaatheist Only you could bring 'religion' into this. Why do you have to believe in God to understand murdering one of your own is wrong? Where exactly is your moral compass? You're starting to make Dahmer look like a saint. PS, Christians, i.e. 'followers of Christ', likely would subscribe to Jesus's teaching on how to treat their enemy: Jesus said, "You have heard that people used to say, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, Do not fight against *evil. If someone hits you on the right side of your face, let him hit you on the other side also" (Matthew 5:38-39). Please learn something about scripture before commenting on it, your comments are remarkably childish.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 13:58

zaatheist It's a normal question, it seems you don't understand it. I didn't ask if it was legal and I didn't ask about misscarried babies... I asked if it would be wrong. Yes or no... don't try side step the question about the legality of it. It was once legal to gas jews but it was still wrong, unless you think that it was right? So... forget legal, if I said your mum should have aborted you do you think it would be wrong for me to say that?

      Schmee - 2012-06-12 14:06

And there we go with the Christians defending the Bible but if you had to say that this is written in the Quran then the Muslims would be bad people. In both books you have a God that suggests that humans should sacrifice in his honour, blah blah blah. And as you read further in both books you also come to realise that morals change over the years. I really think that people should stop referring to the bible for moral guidance and start thinking of what is good for the earth today. Overpopulation is causing the decline in our biodiversity. Humans are the biggest threat to biodiversity. So if you can’t get them to stop breeding then at least give them the choice of what to do if they do fall pregnant.

      benn.sadie - 2012-06-12 14:22

Pro- choice or more accurately, pro- murder, 126,000 babies are murdered in the wombs of their mothers around the world EVERY DAY. Ironically, those who wants to murder innocent babies, are invariably the ones who oppose the death penalty for murderers. Those who do abortions in the abortion mills, are murderers. God HATES the spilling of innocent blood, and there is nothing more innocent than an unborn baby. All biological names are given English names, with one exception- the foetus. It is easier on the tongue(not to mention the conscience) to say the foetus was removed/ destroyed/murdered, rather than a baby.If destroying the unwanted is the "final solution", where is the line drawn- the aged?, drug addicts? handicapped?

      thutothegreat - 2012-06-13 08:41

@zaatheist - I am an Atheist myself, but one thing I cannot stand is atheists like you, always going out of their way to attack other people, your are just an attention seeker, trying to justify your own course because deep down you feel lost. Believing in God does not make you stupid, and thats how atheists like you treat religious people. There was no mention of the bible or anything like that, but you just had to go and start the fight, Thando was talking about God and the bible.

      rainbow.nation.39 - 2012-06-13 14:09

BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND!! The statistics are shocking and the mindset of these children need to change. problem is that in order to acheive this the mindset of the parents have to change which as we have seen over the years, despite warning of aids and other nasty diseases , has not. Ones Cultre can be ones own worst enemy.

      merven.halo - 2012-06-13 14:30

You guys do realize that if there is not an abortion every 10 minutes, there would be a birth every 10 minutes? They should temporarily sterilize all children. When you're done studying and have a decent job, you can apply for a child, otherwise it is a no-no.

      merven.halo - 2012-06-13 14:33

@Jazzy: @zaatheist - please read the bible in context! So by reading the bible in context baby murder is justified? So why don't you look at the current situation with single moms suffering with unwanted children in context?

      Benn - 2012-06-14 08:39

So, your solution? Kill all the ones who have become "liabilities"- the aged, the frail. unemployed, handicapped, drug addicts, smokers, alcoholics ect ect

      Marko Lasene - 2014-09-20 09:35

@ ZAATHEIST, Are you so strong as a God believer that you link is name to any issue? What does "Abortion = Murder" to do with God? Yes abortion is a murder and a crime. Besides it puts the pregnant persons life in danger. Is that not enough for you to tell your kids (if you have some) not to fall pregnant?

  • Squeegee - 2012-06-12 10:06

Kids are blase. No wonder there are so many murders of children. Killing before birth or after birth is the same thing to them.

  • thebe.tau - 2012-06-12 10:18

So clearly there is a link between low level education and teenage pregnancy, I hope govnm is taking note, so the poorer the community the faster the population growth, SMH.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 10:59

Yes, more education is urgently needed. No one I know ever promotes abortion as a method of birth control but it is still preferable to just adding more and more mouths to a population that cannot support itself. 12 year olds? WTF are the parents doing? PAH!

      Riëtte - 2012-06-12 11:55

the parents are having intercourse in front of the children in their small shacks, therefore they don't learn the real meaning of it, you have urges you satisfy it, you get pregnant, you get rid of it... It's no use promoting abstinance in the educational programs, by the time they go to school the example is set for life.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 14:22

Perhaps if they live with the consequence, we'll see a drop in both... births and abortions. There is no better education than learning from a mistake that's part of your life forever. lmao hahaha. As far as these girls go, they don't think they have a problem. It's us who have a problem with them. How can they learn anything when it's not an issue for them. The way they see it is like this... let's shag, go abort... let's shag, abort. This works, let's tell my friends. And you tell us no-one ever promotes abortion... who are you fooling mate. lol What till you have your own little girl kicking and moving about in mums tummy... tell me you can kill it without flinching, if you can, man you must be one ugly person inside.

  • hudayfah.newman - 2012-06-12 10:18

uhm . . .what? Go and terrorise some other stupid with these silly arguments that you lap up from the internet. Choice of doing good and bad is left for humans. Don't worry. Punishment awaits for them here or in the next world.

      Emile - 2012-06-12 11:24

@zaathiest i dont think bashing god is a good way of getting ur point across, or was your point intended to bash god. either way, most christians will respond to this with an attack of their own and then nobody learns anything. i get that you dont agree with christianity, and that christians in general give you alot of crap for the choices you make, but this is a great opportunity to take the high road and show people you can be a good person religious or no. just a friendly suggestion from somebody on the fence :)

I'm sorry, i hate to break it to you, but no one takes you seriously with your rehashed arguments. Someone gives you a proper answer then you jump to other arguments or you stop posting. Then in another thread you bring the same argument that someone already answered you on. Your arguments are getting tedious to say the least. Get on with your life and let people make their choices like you made yours.

      Emile - 2012-06-12 12:44

@zaatheist... ur doing it right now dude lol. like i said, YOU dont believe. I do. i dont go off on you 4 not believing, simply cuz i dont think that would achieve anything. you dont want god so im not gonna force him onto you. what im saying is that if you provoke christians like this, your gonna get the responses you do. thats just how they are. if you actually enjoy all of this crap then i guess you're one of those pot-stirrer atheists. i prefer the mellowed, weed loving opinionated types myself lol

      Emile - 2012-06-12 13:44

also, to give you a proper response to the issues you raised - christianity is fairly freeform in terms of how the bible is interpreted and most people only follow the parts that support their own personal convictions. its hypocritical to say the least, but thats how they do things and thats why you aren't one of em anymore. i would stop citing old testament scripture to back your arguments, since most people gloss over the violence in the old testament and only read the fluffy parts. in terms of whether abortion is murder or not, people will be debating that indefinitely. there is no right answer. are you pro-life or pro-choice? cant always tell what your opinions are cuz of all the hate you put in ur posts

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 14:00

zaatheist - "I am enjoying this. All you guys do is respond to my post by attacking me personally (ad hominem) and avoiding the issues I raised. All you prove by doing this is that your beliefs are very shallow and you cannot bare to have them subjected to scrutiny and questioning. " Zaatheist.....The only shallow thing around here is your so called "issues you raised". People with something called FAITH(which you know nothing about clearly) need not answer/provide any explanation or reasoning about why they have such FAITH. It is what most people have that others do is their choice! Why subject the faith a person has in god to scrutiny and questioning? Is there something about your past that haunts you so terribly that brought about this very apparent hatred you have for people with a belief in god or just god in general? Did losing somebody close to you bring about this hatred? is your life not what you expected it to be, then just thought you would attack religion simply because it did nothing but confuse you? why is it that you blame people here for "attacking you personally"? when it is in fact you that brings about a lack of acceptance of other peoples beliefs.....zaatheist, sitting here trying to win any argument against you does not bring about any satisfaction to us as it very clearly brings you. Maybe that is why people here personally attack YOU and not your "issues".

      christopher.lambelho - 2012-06-12 18:08

i have come across a few of your comments not only posted in this article but a few others as well. it was apparent to me that you are all for "right to choice" etc,Yet when you start bringing up your religion "arguments" you basically contradict your past comments to the full! So let me try understand may have a choice to say, do, believe what you want but christians/muslims etc cannot? Since you're always bringing up "issues" let me start by bringing one up with you, if of course you can handle one...Why is it that you come onto this site and feel you have to question others beliefs? Its a simple answer i suppose for you? Do you even understand that for millions of people around the world, their faith in their god is their EVERYTHING?? It is what gets the poor and unhealthy out of is what makes certain people's lives a blessing to THEM! why do you feel the need to place what people hold dear to them under scrutiny? Do you get rewarded for this? Do you get pleasure from doing this? If so zaatheist, it is perhaps my personal belief that i should take it upon myself to close my christian eyes, bend my christian knees to the ground, put my christian palms together and say a little christian prayer for you...simply asking MY GOD to have a little patience, have a little sympathy...and simply bless you. I do this not for you, i do this for me, for my beliefs, for what gets me going through my darkest of days,i do this for everyone here as well. Peace be with u

  • Shellerjc - 2012-06-12 10:18

This is so - so sad. Whats worse is, if they are turned away @ clinics then all these young girls do is to dump that new born in an open field. I would say give the baby up for adoption, but even that wont be good enough as the poor infant will be kept in an orphange for years to come as there is SOOO much red tape trying to adopt, cant say I blame them, but some couples are turned down just because of who they are.

      Too true

  • H9005 - 2012-06-12 10:47

We are already an overpopulated world with high unemployment yet. So many teens are getting pregnant for grant money alone, of course these are not the ones who have abortions. It would be interesting to know how many of the 45 276 are receiving social/child grants. Obviously the free contraceptives and the preaching on the use thereof is not having an impact. Go back to the days when this type of act was punished. Both male and female need to be punished somehow. Children need to understand the consequences of their actions. Perhaps even not allowing abortion and forcing the parents to take the responsibility of parenthood without grant money. But then again we'd just have more babies found in dumpsters. I firmly believe that serious action needs to be taken - some kind of community service, at the very least.

  • Ryno - 2012-06-12 10:50

  • richard.zanner - 2012-06-12 11:00

My daughter is 16 and I do not have these worries. It starts at home. I do not teach my daughter safe sex, I make sure she does not get in a position where she can chose. When she is grown up then she can decide. To abort is fine and I have no real moral issue with it but the Mothers will carry that scar all their lives. It is against nature for a mother to lose a child and feel nothing. Surely the starting point is to educate our own children to abstain after all we are not mere rabbits that go forth and fornicate but have some level of intellect and we can make choices.

      mary.sadler.35 - 2012-06-12 11:11

Oh wow Richard, unless you've put a chastity belt on your daughter, better not to be so sure. You might end up with egg on your face and a pregnant daughter.

      Marcail - 2012-06-12 12:26

you do not teach your daughter safe sex, you just keep her locked up?????? you have no idea what information she is gathering elsewhere??????? you have a lot of worry coming your way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 16:23

His daughter will be fine... there is nothing wrong with teaching them to abstain, as long as he doesn't force her to. You don't need to lock them up to encourage them to abstain, you just need to educate them. There is nothing wrong with Abstinence. Some people are so strongly against it, that they almost view it as a wrong thing, encouraging girls to go sleep around which I think is idiocy. I think abstinence is just a preventative method rather than a situational one. You can teach someone to use a gun safely, or teach them to not use guns at all. Some people think one is better than the other. Personally, I think prevention is the best way.

There are so many initiatives that the department of education and health are doing in educating the teens to take good care of their lives but no they ignore them. Well the modern society has learn to accept some shocking thing but ths hayi khona.

  • lmadikwe - 2012-06-12 11:07

I don't why every time E.CAPE is on the news, it's for wrong news only. The permanent decision should be: PUT E.CAPE UNDER ADMINISTRATION FOR ETERNITY.

  • Darra - 2012-06-12 11:09

This does hurt. This is so much more than teenage(?) adventurism or having fun. This is a societal problem of enormous consequence. These are the 'mothers of the next generation, for crying out loud! Whither South Africa!

      Marcail - 2012-06-12 12:30

i presume you voted for the RESPONSIBLE president, who shows no respect for women.

  • Andre - 2012-06-12 11:15

Why are you surprised? This government allows, and in some cases virtually orders, abortions, murdering innocent babies, whilst leaving grown up criminal murders the luxury of living.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 14:19

Abortion is not murder and is perfectly constitutional and legal in South Africa. If you don't want to have an abortion then don't.

  • lulama.dana - 2012-06-12 11:19

This is sickening. There are people out there who deserve kids but can't have them, then you get those who fall pregnant and abort their kids or throw them in bins. Fortune really does favour fools!

  • Abdul - 2012-06-12 11:19

"Dozens have o be turned away...." scary, because soon we gona have dozens/ thousands of unwanted/ uncared for kids...placing an additional strain on our services!!!!!

  • Anita - 2012-06-12 11:21

But what really chips me off is kids as young as 12 can go and have an abortion without parents consent, but when you want to go to a pharmacy to get your birth control pill you need a script from a doctor!

      snoopy.snoopaloop - 2012-06-12 11:45

My point Exactly. I do not entirely agree with termination, however, if a girl has been raped, I seem to understand her actions. Those who do use it, I do have mixed feelings on it. Should that girl rather keep the baby, not being able to support it and dump it somewhere? Or take the plunge, terminate and actually "Save" the baby from a life of begging and hardship? Somehow, I do understand both views. However, ignorance is what kills me. Repeat offenders should be sterilized!

      Emile - 2012-06-12 11:53

lol, try and do the right thing and the system kicks you in the balls for it... well in ur case you will get kicked somewhere else but you get the point

      lauren.hess.1272 - 2012-06-12 12:30

The pill is free at all govt clinics. No script required.

      Anita - 2012-06-12 12:54

um Lauren, was not referring to the cost of the pill, but rather how difficult they make it for it to be obtained. You need to get a script to get the pill from the pharmacy AND PAY, or you need to go and sit all day long at the clinic to get it FOR FREE. Either way its a mission. Not that we dont do it anyway, I am merely making a point.

      Candice - 2012-06-12 12:58

@Lauren, Hello!!!! we talking about a govt clinic. Clearly you have half a day to go and sit in a long queue just to get the pill, for some of us we dont have that luxury.

      snoopy.snoopaloop - 2012-06-12 13:21

Lauren, not the sharpest pencil in the box today are we? For those of us who do make use of a concraceptive it is quite a freakin procedure. 1stly, you need to visit the Dr, consult and get a script, oh don't forget paying your consultation fee, then head down to the pharmacy, get the pill and pay for it. Yet, a 12 year old can bonk to her hearts content, she just walses in to a clinic and have an abortion. No stress! Government clinics are quite a pain in the ass to get a pill from, personal experience (if they think you can afford it, they refuse to help you). Or simply make you sit and wait in a que the entire day.. BTW, let me know how that works for your employer, you have to take an entire days leave to get your pill!

      Anita - 2012-06-12 14:36

Snoopsy! Thank you, you have elaborated on the exact point I was tryng to make. Why so easy to have an abortion and so bloody difficult to do the right thing! It's backward!

  • carol.penderisbehr - 2012-06-12 11:22

Maybe those children should rather pay attention to their schoolwork, and learn to spell and write properly, to say the least. And leave this kind of stuff till they are responsible adults, who can afford to get pregnant in the first place. For God sake, there are 7 billion people on earth ~ can't they stop multiplying ?!

      snoopy.snoopaloop - 2012-06-12 11:53

The government should inforce a law, you have to apply for a licence in order to have kids! Just as you are to have a licence for Driving, TV, Fire arms, so you should have licence to have kids. This way, government will be able to screen the couple, ensure they are financially & Emotionally stable, that they do have medical aid, and are compitent people who will be great parents, who will love the child and care for it to the best of their abilities. This would also stamp out women / people having strings of kids, but cannot Freaking feed them, cant support the child should they require extensive medical care, who cant afford school fees and so just dont send the child to school, who would most probably end up turning to crime in order to support themself. At the end of the day the only one suffering is the poor freaking child who did not even ask to be here.

  • Ted - 2012-06-12 11:24

Abortion is repugnant to my moral conscience. Just imagining a foetus being scorched or poisoned to death is unfathomably horrible. But then, if they can abort one every 10 minutes, at what rate are they conceiving them? This is a very serious social problem indeed. Why this province? The answers should be easy to obtain and remedial action taken.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 11:36

Nobody is asking you to have one so don't fret about it.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 14:02

We'll I'm asking you if your mom wanted to abort you and you could speak... what would you have said to her? Go for it?

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 14:40

Ag zaatheist you've given this silly answer before. I didn't ask what would happen if your mom aborted you and I didn't ask if it were legal. I asked you if it would be morally wrong for me to think that you should have been aborted, that you shouldn't exist. Are you able to understand the difference between that question? I'm sure we all know what happens after an abortion, not sure why you're asking yourself that. Secondly, like I'd told you before... I didn't ask you if it's legal or not. So why do you repeat yourself? Legality does nothing to it being moral or immoral. If you think that, then you're telling me it was once right to kill jews because it was legal? You're so caught up in words and constitution that your moral intelligence isn’t a feature in your brain. I don’t think you even realise the atrocities that were permitted by governments. Let’s not get started on some of the communistic actions of the past governments.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 15:41

Okay then, so if you think its okay for me to wish or think you should have been aborted... Then I may go on to say that I don't feel so bad, because geez I think your mother made one hell of a mistake by keeping you. She should have terminated your ass. I'm sure you and any normal person can see that this thinking is totally wrong. Yet, you go on to claim it's perfectly normal to have a nation with this sort of mindset.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 16:51

No, you have been pushed into a contradictory situation. You fell for it. It’s amazing how you say that abortion isnt wrong, yet you become offended when it becomes personal. How selfish for you to think you can get off the hook but not others. How can you think it’s invective when someone says you ought to have been aborted, when at the same time you say there is nothing wrong with abortion. What goes for others, goes for you too. Even though I’ve included the word "may". Followed by almost every post in this article that clearly shows I think it's wrong to think that way. You’ve ignored that because… firstly you've picked up moral offence… and secondly you’ve become desperate. Nice try... Your response shows two things. Even though you say you're pro-abortion, the truth is you don’t believe its right. Number 2. You want to believe its right in the hope that it makes you feel better. Otherwise, given your claims you shouldn't have any problem, so why are you now suddenly objecting and feeling offended? If you really felt the way you claim then you should embrace the views I’ve mentioned. In fact, you should see no problem at all if people wished for others to have been terminated.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 19:10

Vanilla You are blathering. You seem to expect me to accept the bunkum of historic drivel that catalogues your life's commitments and to submit to your misplaced devotion to work in aid of promoting a fiction as if it, and other religions totalitarian claims upon human rights, have a privileged place that should be given special conditions to flout reason by justifying itself in underhand and understated ways that should somehow let make believe take precedent over all of my faculties and sensibilities. I have no reason to treat you seriously any more

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-13 16:12

Pulling a load of cods-wallop like that out your bum aint going to help your fallacies. You're throwing dust in your own eyes more than anyone else.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-13 16:30

Also, going back and deleting all your comments isn't going to help either. Most people have already read them. Now you desperately try to disrupt the flow of conversation, you would resort to such a low level as to use that sort of tactic? Can you be taken seriously? Unfortunately you've run like a coward. Unable to admit or face the flaws in your arguments and unable to admit your real problem with this whole thing. Your cowardly retreat says it all zaatheist.

  • catgirl1971 - 2012-06-12 11:34

If these females are using abortion as a contraceptive method then they should be sterilised as they do not care about the sanctity of life.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 13:45

What is the sanctity of life?

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 14:04

You should really look it up, your question says something about your moral IQ. I would research the word sanctity and then look up life and combine the two.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 15:45

Why should I use a bible? Why are you jumping into the bible... you’re always on about the bible, are you obsessed with it? You asked what the sanctity of life is and you don't need a bible for that. Why don't you investigate what it means and find out?

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 16:43

Yes, it seems you assume a lot. First rule, don't assume.

Legislation should be blamed here. These politicians vote for these laws and when young people utilize them, they jump to blame other less related factors. Is about time that whatever is voted should be culturally, religiously and morally scrutinized

      Emily-Jane Elson - 2012-06-12 13:21

It starts at home.. Parents are mostly to blame. Teach your kids what's right and wrong & with morals and they'll have the tools to make the right choices..

  • Riëtte - 2012-06-12 12:11

This is what happens when children are exposed to adult stuff, they go and experiment without the necessary knowledge or intellect to handle it. To be emotionally blase about killing a child while you are still a child sets the wrong pattern for the rest of your life. I think sometimes that these kids operate under a lot of mis-information regarding things like contraceptives and AIDS.

      Emily-Jane Elson - 2012-06-12 13:19

If you raise you kids with proper info and morals they will know the difference between right and wrong. My parents did and I was and am still able to think for myself and know better..

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 13:22

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 14:08

That just shows the stats of people failing to practice religious doctrine... because religious doctrine strictly prohibits porn, abortion and the sort. What you're showing is nothing more than the failure of a nation to practice what they believe.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 15:05

You can utter whatever rubbish you like, both your posts about stats and your reply to my reply to your post about stats… have zero weight to your argument and do nothing to the truth of the matter. My advice let that simmer a while before writing another misfire. Around 70% of South Africa’s population claim to be Christian / theist / deistic. More claim some religious belief. Yet your country is murder and rape capital of the world. Does this mean Christians belief it’s good to rape. Because that’s what you’re implying. Lol Unless you’re trying to conclude some other point… which is? South Africa is secular... okay so? lol...that somehow validate your claim of the American stats.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 15:07

hang on a sec, the countries with the lowest rates of teen pregnancy and rape have pornography freely available? Man, it's freely available on the net around the world. SA is rape capital of the world. Don't tell me you can't get porn there. Your logic never fails to amuse me. lmao... then you have the audacity to go on and say "Citation urgently required"... hahahahahaha

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 17:09

Let me spell it out for you zaatheist... it doesn't matter if 100% of a country were christian and loving porn, aborting or doing whatever the hell you can think of. All it shows is the failures of people practicing their religion. I don't know why you're trying to do that... it has no relevance. lol I would first understand the basics reason and logic zaatheist. Jesus lovers love porn... so? What's your point. So does a skillion other people. lmao. You seem to think that if a person is unable to meet their obligations then there is something wrong with the obligation. ha ha ha. Well, it's the other way around.

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 17:11

Secondly, your argument about porn and rape is pointless. Why isn't it low in South Africa then? Are you saying that making porn free will lower rape or abortions? What are you trying to prove?

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-13 16:40

Delete delete... just makes it worse for you zaatheist. It shows your inability to accept your defeat. I'll be hauling this out to haunt you every time I come across you zaatheist.

  • Nicky - 2012-06-12 12:27

I may be opening a can of worms here, but in my opinion, the EC is the province of the ANC. I'm by no means saying that only black girls are affected by this, but surely the greater majority are. The questions in my mind are: Why are these girls (and boys) not being brought up to know better, and why is teenage sex like a game to them? Fair enough, rape is also an aspect to consider, but I doubt if that is the main reason for so many teenage pregnancies in the EC. Does the idea of a better life not stick in their minds? Does the privelage of education and prosperity of a bright future not spring to mind. Forget contraception, children should be tought (and warned) not to engage in sexual activities until they are much older, wiser, and possible ready to suffer the consequences thereof. Forgive me, but I can't help but wonder if the perception of breeding to become more, is stil being followed - regarless of how that poor little child is going to suffer as it grows up - if it grows up...

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 17:18

No, the only rage you're going to find is in yourself. I certainly don't feel any rage. In fact, I'm quite sleepy now. No not desperate, rather I'm still waiting for you to make sense. I don't think so, I think you have managed to refute and confuse yourself more than dissect any argument. I’ve dealt with your claims directly and exposed your contradictions. While you've side stepped mine and thrown smoke in the hope that I’ll be distracted down your rabbit holes.

  • Inx - 2012-06-12 12:58

The proliferation of unintended teenage pregnancies in South Africa reveals how much more we need to focus on gender relations. Coercive sex and rape, transactional sex and violence are rife among youth in communities, condom negotiation is difficult under these circumstances. We need to not only encourage female contraception to avoid pregnancy, but ensure they are empowered to insist on a condom to prevent HIV exposure! It starts with young men and women debating gender norms and changing these to better shape their relationships with each other. I also think the issue is much deeper than teenagers acting 'blase' about it?... There is definitly trauma herein.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 13:52

      NeildeWeerdt - 2012-06-12 14:50

Interesting how you then Compare the Christian faith to the Jewish faith. if you called yourself an ex-Christian. Then you should know that Christians use the OLD Testament for "historical" uses of what was and how it would have been. True Christians believe in "The Good News / The Gospel". It sound more to me that you where a "The Word Of Faith" Believer.

      merven.halo - 2012-06-14 10:20

'True Christians believe in "The Good News / The Gospel". ' That is a lame way to admit that the old Testament is utterly BULLSHAIT.

  • Tofilux - 2012-06-12 14:12

What is the world coming to? They should just make abortion illegal once if these kids think its a solution to their stupidity, what the hell is a 12 year old doing having sex any way???? Abortion is for people who get raped and so on not for some snort nose, ignorant brat who thinks "oh well I'll just abort"! Parents really need to teach their daughters self worth and their sons to respect a females body, this is too much now, that 12year old will not value life or herself! Ignorance Kills People!!!

      zaatheist - 2012-06-12 14:37

      VanillaSky Godwins law. Google it.

      reinette.minne - 2012-06-12 15:06

So you want us to return to a time where if a girl/woman was raped/fell pregnant due to incest or the fetus was severely deformed etc, the process of acquiring a “legal” abortion was so invasive, time consuming and administratively flawed, that by the time she might be “granted” approval to abort, it would be too late in the pregnancy and she would have to suffer the consequences. Abortion being legal is not a religious issue but an issue of human rights and choice. A woman must have the right to make decisions regarding her own body. If you have a moral or religious reason against abortion, then don’t abort-that is also a choice

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 15:19

I don't feel like it because i know what it is... and what is your point? lol you can't simply just throw out a term and say there. That's my answer. Do you somehow think that this validates your claim that "because it's legal it's moral".

      Nicholas.Spaggiari - 2012-06-12 17:26

You think that, I don't. rolf

      merven.halo - 2012-06-14 10:22

"because it's legal it's moral". Moral is a matter of opinion or in the Christian faith, a matter of reading the bible in context.

  • Inx - 2012-06-12 14:45

Teen pregnancy is pervasive in every province, not just EC. And kids know the risks - they get sex ed at school, yet unprotected sex persists. We need to understand why the girls are not using or don't insist on contraceptives. It has to do with religious hegemonies and patriarchal gender relations. It is

      Clayton Richard Delport - 2012-06-12 16:20

  • shadung.raymond - 2012-06-12 15:01

Then who is to blame?.....well, i think parents are responsible for this......they are the ones who buy this big cell phones for teenagers where they easily get access to pornography, consequently they imitate what they are learning from those pornogarphic sites. It is also their responsibility to ensure that their kids dont watch adult programmes on TV. Sometimes parents are the ones who suggest abortion for their pregnat teenagers in the name of not wanting people to see how did their children conducted government must take an initiative in educating parents about this type of situations because at the moment their focus is only directed to teenagers in their strategies are not working since teenagers are not yet mentally matured to accept authority aspecially when their parents are not involved.

Why should that little heart beat pay for your mistake and ignorance? Children are a blessing and a miracle.. they bring so much joy into life.
