Abused dads protest in Johannesburg

Johannesburg - Dozens of men have taken to the streets of Hillbrow, Johannesburg, to seek protection from their abusive wives, who regularly beat them up, The New Age reported on Tuesday.

"We have a database of men who have been abused from all social classes, including pastors, men from informal settlements and medium-to-low density suburbs," Moshate Men's Right Organisation spokesperson CEO Nashilo Mnisi told the newspaper.

The men marched under the organisation's banner at the weekend.

Mnisi said women were increasingly becoming more abusive towards men.

Research showed that "some situations had boiled over and men killed their families because their wives had been abusing them for a very long time", he said.

Hillbrow police spokesperson Constable Nkosinathi Mgimeti told The New Age that the march was joined by children who had seen their mothers abusing their fathers, and by women whose brothers were being abused by their wives.

"There are very few men who come forward to the police to report these, but we do have victims of men abuse."

During the march from Hillbrow to Berea, protesters chanted: "If we start fighting abuse against men, we are putting a stop to all forms of human abuses. Say no to men abuse."

childish idiots above. It's funny until you k.ow of someone who goes through it(even with no personal relation). See a small-framed man with a naturally timid personality, bullied all his life and ending up with a bigger, tempered woman who takes advantage. It's not so amusing seeing a man cry in front of his son. Small-minded people think all men are born identical and go through similar life experiences

Not cool ripping them off because they have soft hearts. Alot of men grow up in a culture of not being allowed to hit a woman and these types of women exploit it to their advantage. They are cold callous bitches. It is just as bad as the reverse roles, except probably more shame.

I was raised in such a way, but i will give what i get, they want equality, hit me and il ask her to stop, hit me again and il drop her one for one, fair is fair.

@Martin Perhaps these men have children and don't want to teach them that it is ok to hit a women - even if she is asking for it. Also if they have kids they might take the abuse in order not to break the home. Sort of being the bigger man in that regard. Some women stay in abusive relationships for these reasons too. We as bystanders really can't judge them if we don't know the facts

I feel sorry for all the men being beaten up. I also understand why women are getting more and more aggressive. The very first thing is instability in the household. 1) Finances 2) Relationship 3) Extra responsibility on either the man's side or the woman's side. Alot of circumstances can lead to instability. Note: I did not mention trust, as trust should never be a factor, doesn't matter whether you do or do not trust. Every one at the end of the day are human and will thus make mistakes. What you and your partner however do to work around the trust issue is up to you, as long as you can make it work, if you want to. Strongs to both men and women being abused. Not nice! Seen to much of it.
