Alberton township residents block roads

2012-10-19 12:33

Johannesburg - Residents of the Thina Sonke informal settlement in Phola Park, near Alberton, blockaded roads on Friday morning, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

At 05:00 residents blockaded the road with burning tyres, various objects and big rocks, said Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng.

"They occupied the Old Vereeniging Road... including the M7 between Petersen and Kliprivier roads."

Mokheseng said the protest had ended, but he still did not know what the residents had been protesting about.

"Even though we managed to defuse the situation together with the SA Police Service, we will observe and continue to monitor the situation."

He advised motorists to be careful when driving in the area.

Now what could their reason be for protesting? Tired of the empty promises made by the incompetent people they keep voting for perhaps?

      mark.singh.9889 - 2012-10-19 12:41

They dont need a valid reason. they just do it

      fenju.f.ii - 2012-10-19 12:49

      michael.heys.3 - 2012-10-19 13:49

And will they have the brains to vote differently at the next election??? I don't think so.

      JohnB - 2012-10-19 14:29

The only way to protest is with your vote. Get rid of cANCer.

  • dante.schoeman - 2012-10-19 12:39

Oh the logic!! We want more so lets break down what we have...

      hendrik.schutte.3152 - 2012-10-19 13:41

Must agree, it is a concept that I simply can not understand. Strike and protest for more, but in the process we destroy what we have. So now there is even less that we have, and any money that might have been available to give "extra" now has to be used to replace what was there before. It applies to municipal infrastructure, schools whatever, you name it. They destroy it. Beyond my understanding.

  • coontly - 2012-10-19 12:45

Protesting for nothing? I'm sure they'll just slot in with whomever is protesting for whatever today, by Monday we will know what the protest was about, so will they.

  • shirley.steenkamp - 2012-10-19 12:48

If South Africa ever wants to be taken seriously in the world economy-then its citizens will HAVE to start acting like HUMAN BEINGS! I have no sympathy for these people who all cry poverty but still continue to dstroy whatever few pieces of infrastructure there are!!!!

  • mrova.blaza - 2012-10-19 12:50

South Africa is a country on a road to nowhere.

  • Samuel - 2012-10-19 14:01

In developed countries, if u don't deliver people remove u thru ballot, here in south africa the illiterate are afraid of change. Even these idiots who protest by blocking road. Come 2014 they still gona vote this useless ANC!!!!

      BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-10-19 14:06

That's the whole sad story I'm afraid. You are 100% correct. They make sure they divide the nation so we cannot unite and therefore cannot chuck them out of Government.
