All systems go for exams - Motshekga

2012-10-18 11:51

Pretoria - All provinces are ready for the 2012 matric examinations, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said on Thursday.

"We are confident that the 2012 exams will proceed as smoothly as it has been in past few years. We cannot foresee any major discrepancies," she told reporters in Pretoria.

All nine provinces had sent reports confirming readiness. The exams start on Monday.

A total of 527 335 full-time pupils and 120 352 part-time candidates would write the exams, and 264 question papers had been moderated and approved by the quality assurer, Umalusi.

And yet many kids haven't yet received their textbooks.

      tuco.angeleyes - 2012-10-18 12:08

Yet the whole year thousands of students did not recieve the meterial / tools to enable them to write exams. how stupid can this woman and her subbordinates be? better yet, how stupid can our president be to hire someone clearly so incompetant? Our kids are doomed.

      art5SA - 2012-10-18 12:08

      What's the pass rate for 2012? 22% ????

      art5SA - 2012-10-18 12:09

      .....Or are they still deciding?

      jackal666.daniel - 2012-10-18 12:16

Now watch, the pass rate won't be affected meaning that the marks would have been tampered with in the wake of your textbook b@lls-up Angie!

      bibi.vanzyl - 2012-10-18 12:17

She will once again adapt the results to make her department look good and these students will drop out of the unies after the 1st or 2nd year.

      ahenriquesfernandes - 2012-10-18 12:20

If a politician says it is so then it so. That is how it seems to work here in SA at least

      jackal666.daniel - 2012-10-18 12:57

I wonder if government will supply red pens because those exams will be dripping in red ink!

      johann.fouche.50 - 2012-10-18 13:22

I have seen the guidelines to examiners and moderators: "To speed up and ease marking, guess a mark for the candidate - any random mark between 50% and 99% will do. As long as the candidate passes. We will adjust the marks so that there are 50% less failures per subject compared to the 2011 results. Thus we guarantee a positive marked in the pass rate per subject. Please use your time effectively and efficiently and do not spend more than 15 seconds per exam paper. Enjoy your marking!"

  • JAbu.R15 - 2012-10-18 12:05

I wonder how ready Limpopo and Northern Cape learners are. People just talk for the sake of politics! limpopo just got text books by the second term and there has been no schooling in the Norther Cape because of service delievery protests.

      art5SA - 2012-10-18 12:09

.....and NO education in the remainder of the country.... other than the Western Cape?????

  • hamish.drake1 - 2012-10-18 12:08

I wonder if Limpopo will receive exam papers?

      art5SA - 2012-10-18 16:02

  • vernon.samuel.7 - 2012-10-18 13:02

Angie! Angie! Angie! She exudes such positivity, does she not. She is always calm and unflappable. If she were minister of health, HIV/AIDS would not be an issue. We may still have high numbers of infections, but she would not see that as a problem. She is able to down-play the worst of crises. If she were reporting on world war 2, we would have been under the impression that a couple of guys had had a stick fight in their back yard. Or that Hitler may have had an argument with one or two jews. I do not know whether she is stubborn, stupid or deluded - or a combination of any or all of the above. Come next week and we will hear of the short-deliveries of papers or leakages. But she will still be adamant that all is well. The matric pass rate will probably rise to 100% under her watch, because at some point she will pass learners just for pitching for the exam. And she will give herself 9 out of 10 and 2 smiley faces for being such a good little minister. Forgive me, but I think that she is a twat.

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2012-10-18 13:16

Exam papers with the answers pencilled in, thats more like it. Guarantee this year they are going to have the biggest and best pass rate yet, so they can pat themselves on the back. Education to this bumble bee means nothing, it is just her meal ticket at the end of the month. I suppose she will get a big bonus when all the results are doctorered.
