Durban - A suspected serial rapist appeared in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the case against Sibongiseni Thusi, 29, who is facing three counts of rape, was postponed to August 31 for a bail application.

It is alleged the suspect lured his victims by promising them employment.

Zwane said the most recent incident was on August 20, when Thusi allegedly approached a 22-year-old woman in Empangeni. Two previous victims were 15 and 19 years old respectively.

"She [the 22-year-old woman] was lured by a man who promised her a job. He took her to a secluded area and raped her before fleeing the scene.

"She immediately informed the Empangeni police and the suspect was arrested and charged. A formal identity parade was held and the suspect was positively identified by the three victims," Zwane said.
