Alleged Qinabout murderer arrested

Durban – KZN police have apprehended a suspected murderer who is accused of killing a sangoma in the Qinabout area.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane on Saturday said police "worked tirelessly" searching for the suspect.

"Their investigation led them to Hammersdale outside Pinetown where the suspect had hid. A 37-year-old man was apprehended and taken to police station for detention.

"On Thursday at about 09:00, Norah Koti Khawula, 58, who is a local sangoma was accosted by the suspect at her home who stabbed her multiple times on her neck and chest. She died instantly and the motive of the killing is unknown at this stage. The suspect fled the area and police were alerted."

A case of murder was opened at Gamalakhe police station for investigation. The accused will appear at Ramsgate Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended Gamalakhe detectives on their "commitment to catch the suspect".

"We will ensure that we thoroughly investigate this case so that we can present a thoroughly prepared docket for prosecution," she said.
