Cape Town - A homeless person accused of throwing acid on a woman's face told the Cape Town Magistrate's Court he did not recall anything about the incident, the Cape Times reported on Thursday.

Elix Fransman appeared in court on Wednesday, on a charge of assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutor Valencia van der Berg alleged that Fransman attacked a woman, 23, with acid in a minibus taxi on August 30 last year.

"I don't know what happened on that day. I don't know her," the man told the court.

She sustained acid burns to her face and left shoulder. Doctors had to perform plastic surgery on her face weeks after the attack.

According to the report, Fransman said he was in a taxi en route to the city centre that day but that he remembered nothing else.

The case continues.
