Port Elizabeth – Three men arrested for the murder of a 62-year-old farmer from Addo on Monday will remain in custody for now.

Eastern Cape police said the men, aged between 23 and 30, had appeared briefly in the Kirkwood Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning on charges of murder and being in possession of stolen property, but that the case had been postponed to Friday.

The citrus farmer has been identified as Allan Clarke from the farm Sundowner in Addo.

The men were apprehended after stopping at a filling station in the Greenbushes area at 01:00 on Monday to change a tyre on the bakkie.

Police arrested them and one of the suspects is believed to have admitted to their involvement in the attack on the elderly farmer.

Several items, including meat, a laptop and other goods believed to have been stolen from Clarke’s house, were also found in the bakkie.

Police say that the men then pointed out where the body had been dumped a short distance from the garage.
