Alleged liquor store robbers nabbed near Cape Town airport

Cape Town – An 11-strong group alleged to have robbed a Kensington liquor store on Thursday were arrested a short while later after metro police spotted their getaway vehicle.

The driver of the Toyota Quantum sped away when officers tried stopping it, Cape Town Metro Police deputy chief Yolande Faro said.

"Members of all areas responded... and a few minutes later they managed to stop the vehicle on Borchards Quarry Drive next to the BP garage."

A firearm, a replica of a firearm, liquor and an undisclosed amount of cash was found inside the vehicle.

The group was held at Kensington police station on charges of armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.
