Alleged rhino poacher kills self

2012-03-20 14:18

Polokwane - A game reserve manager allegedly involved in rhino poaching shot and killed himself at the reserve in Dwaalboom, near Thabazimbi, Limpopo, police said on Tuesday.

Colonel Vishnu Naidoo said the body of 40-year-old Walter Nkuna was found in his room in the reserve on Monday.

"Police were following leads of rhino poaching after a rhino was killed last Friday at the game farm. The police were about to confront the suspect when he was found dead.

"His official firearm was found next to his body. It is suspected he might have ended his life when police were about to arrest him."

There was no evidence of foul play, Naidoo said.

Good riddance! Thank you Mr. Nkuna, you saved us tax payers some money!

      Joanne - 2012-03-20 14:25

Take it easy - he may have cared deeply about his job, but been threatened by the sods who run these cartels and make the real money of African resources. Far Eastern buyers and local leaders may have paid him to look the other way and when he realised what he'd done - there are many different scenarios - all of them a mess.

      janine.cronje - 2012-03-20 14:27

Sorry Joanne, afraid I can't feel the sympathy....

      Ann - 2012-03-20 14:39

      Schmee - 2012-03-20 14:53

LOL Joanne, obviously people like to be quick to judge. Anyway, I smell a rat. Hopefully they do further investigations. And it is a pity he died before the police could question him because he could have pointed out others that were involved.

      Peter-Peter - 2012-03-20 14:54

I wonder how he knew they were about to arrest him? people on the inside letting him in on some 'official police business' perhaps, someone on the inside who was helping him with the sales?

      bluzulu - 2012-03-20 14:56

Where is the kingpin that took this pawn down. Where are the ringleaders caught for Rhino poaching just a few months ago. The big fish, the real criminals at the top never seem to see Justice.

      Chloe - 2012-03-20 15:06

Hope he is the 1st of MANY MANY more to follow. Will save taxpayers money for sure. I wont even say RIP, rather rot in hell.....

      Cosmos O'Ndebele - 2012-03-20 15:13

As much as i hate all RHINO poachers, i still believe in Innocent tll proven guilty. There is no direct evidence that this guy was involved in Rhino poaching, True Police had him as a prime suspect, but he was not under arrest what so ever. This might as well hve taken his life for something completely different, but again we all wont know this guy is dead there will be no reincarnation. But most of you ar rushing to celebrate his death, such a nation of bloodletting sic` . Some of u will attack me, but i know im right.

      Janice - 2012-03-20 15:19

Good, hope he suffered before he died!!!

      Hermann - 2012-03-20 15:57

He should have done it before he poached.

  • Irene - 2012-03-20 14:23

    Good. Cheerio!

  • Prudence Pelembe - 2012-03-20 14:33

I feel zero sympathy for this guy, death sentence by himself

  • Spenston - 2012-03-20 14:34

This is so sad - sad because the bastard should have been tortured to almost death and then left out in the bush for the lions to eat.

      Tammy - 2012-03-20 15:03

      Alan - 2012-03-20 15:26

And the Rhino to trample on him.

      Chloe - 2012-03-20 16:12

Maybe his rotten body should be dumped in the middle of the game park for the lions to eat. BUT then again, lions are proud and might not eat the piece of Sh$$$t

  • evdwesthuizen1 - 2012-03-20 14:34

They should ALL kill themselves. They are destroying our Rhino out of greed! Plain and simple greed.

  • Bluecrest - 2012-03-20 14:35

The police must keep up the pressure! Well Done!

  • Hilary - 2012-03-20 14:38

@ Joanne - what are you smoking??

      Darren - 2012-03-20 14:39

      Rhino horn

  • Simone - 2012-03-20 14:41

YAHOOOOOOOO my day is made!! Just a pity the rhino didn't get to him first!!!

      bluzulu - 2012-03-20 14:58

This is just a pawn for the simple people to yell out yahoo and let themselves think something is actually been done. This characters death makes no change to the current dilema.

      Garth - 2012-03-20 16:00

Incorrect Bluzulu! The more of these so-called pawns that `off' themselves the better. It is very difficult for the crime syndicates to get criminals on the ground, in positions of treachery, willing to give up their self respect for chinese/vietnamese/yemeni money. Most junior people in conservation do so for the love of the life, not for the money! It is the many landowners that are in the business for the money and only the money and they are the ones that are the most susceptible to corruption. This guy was a game reserve manager, on the payroll and obviously not committed to conservation. The sooner that this type of person goes away, the better. Oh and Joanne and Cosmos - get your stupid, bleeding-heart, liberal heads out of the sand. `. . . no direct evidence that this guy was involved in Rhino poaching.' Indeed! He shot himself didn't he?

      bluzulu - 2012-03-20 17:27

@ Garth, There are too many pawns available, Can't kill them all unfortunately. Cut off the head and the body will die.

      Garth - 2012-03-21 09:03

@Bluzulu - agreed there are too many of them, but if they all start `offing' themselves it'll make for good reading, no?

      bluzulu - 2012-03-22 07:45

THis is the first time I agree with your perspective,

  • Gerhard - 2012-03-20 14:46

Good!!! It was his job to look after the animals! No integrity!

  • Ronnie - 2012-03-20 14:49

  • Nosiphom - 2012-03-20 14:53

    Kills himself!

      bluzulu - 2012-03-20 14:59

      Yeah right,

  • Klipkop - 2012-03-20 14:59

Great, hope he called all his rhino poacher mates and told them to do the same. Hope he shot himself in the nose and bled to death slowly.

  • Nyiko Ngobeni - 2012-03-20 15:01

    Cut his little shrunken hornetjie

  • Puzzled - 2012-03-20 15:02

    Karma's a bitch

  • Tammy - 2012-03-20 15:02

GREAT to read some good news for a chance. May he rot in hell!!!!

      Nico - 2012-03-20 15:52

@bluzulu... to go to heaven or hell you still need to be dead. Didn't you know this??

      bluzulu - 2012-03-26 13:26

      heheehheheheee....No ....I'm an Atheist.

  • Linda - 2012-03-20 15:03

Fantastic news! Its bad enough that the starving unemployed are lured into killing these poor defenceless rhinos - but when someone who is employed to protect them does so they deserve to die.....slowly and in pain like the beautiful animals that they butcher. No sympathy here - just wish more poachers would do the same until they are extinct.

  • Gavin - 2012-03-20 15:06

Great news!! - should grind his body up and send it to the chinkies for medicine - bastard!!

      Chloe - 2012-03-20 16:08

Dont waste money grinding it - A tyre and litre of petrol will be a cheaper option

  • Lee - 2012-03-20 15:17

I wonder if there is anything deeper to the story.....mmmmmmmm but if he did shoot himself then he had more guilt and shame than I would have thought considering he felt absolutely nothing when killing our poor Rhino especially since he must have also seen all the awfull pics of how the Rhino have been killed. Why didn't your guilt and feelings trigger at the time of confronting the Rhino then :(

  • Michelle - 2012-03-20 15:18

Feel no sympathy at all for Nkuna

  • Bael - 2012-03-20 15:26

  • Kathleen - 2012-03-20 15:30

  • WotzisName - 2012-03-20 15:30

Good riddance! I hope he's burning in hell right now!

  • Bernice - 2012-03-20 15:31

It's a pity he took his own life, he should of been hunted and then poached like these magnificinet creatures are hunted and slaughtered. He would never of gone to such extemes by taking his own life for nothing. He was knee deep in this. NOW TO CATCH THE BIG SHOT AND SEND HIM AWAY FOR LIFE.

  • Ian - 2012-03-20 15:36

    Good riddance

  • Eljoh - 2012-03-20 15:37

    Thank Goodness!!!

  • fishycraig - 2012-03-20 15:39

The "extinction" of one man does not weigh up against the extinction of an entire species. Good riddance Nkuna.

  • Shannon - 2012-03-20 15:44

pity he took away the joy that so many of us would have gotten from being able to pull the trigger ourselves. coward.

  • Michael White - 2012-03-20 15:46

Wtf happened to innocent until proven guilty? You people are all sick in your heads. Let it go people he's dead, everyone sounds a little psychotic. I get it yeah rhino poaching is sick, but praising the death of someone that may be totally innocent is disgusting, or have u all suddenly developed utter faith in our police system? No wait you will all be calling that useless next. At no point here does it allege he was about to be arrested or any charges laid against him, police were going to question him, possible to answer questions to point them to those responsible, be it this man our not. The article is rubbish and misleading, oh wait yes its news24.

      Cosmos O'Ndebele - 2012-03-20 15:55

@Michael u make a lot of sense man, judging from the comments here this country seem to hve a lot of sick people!!!

      fishycraig - 2012-03-20 18:03

Yes, he obviously shot himself cause he had no problem with the police coming over to question him. Totally guiltless, or as you say, totally innocent? Yeah right. The only thing that I can say is that it is a pity it is the middle man who takes the bullet and not the kingpins.

  • Herman - 2012-03-20 15:53

    Good shot!

  • Desmond - 2012-03-20 15:58

I hope his poaching comrades follow the stirling example he set

OR, he was iced to remove any possibility of him fingering those higher up the ladder

  • siphiwom - 2012-03-20 20:36

we need a crime intelligence driven approach on this issue, Mr Kuna is just a drop in the ocean. May his soul rest in peace. Mr. Kuna has pass on and left with very, very critical information with him that was going to help us a little bit, to curb this cruelity against the rhino.

  • phathuchicos - 2012-03-20 20:41

    yeeepy...congratulations for killing himself...

  • hadedah - 2012-03-21 15:54
