Cape Town - The wife of a foreign ambassador to South Africa is at home recovering after being mugged and stabbed on Hout Bay beach front in Cape Town last week, EWN reported on Thursday.

Four foreign tourists were walking on Hout Bay beach front last Wednesday before being surprised by an unknown man at around 16:00, a neighbour said on a community watch page on Facebook.

The woman, who is the wife of the Slovakian ambassador to South Africa, was stabbed in the arm and back, while the perpetrator made off with money, keys and other possessions.

The group also included a Hungarian ambassador, and friends of the victim from Sweden.

The robber, who was described by police as being in his early twenties, escaped by running through nearby bushes.

Community Safety MEC Dan Plato condemned the robbery, stating the mugging could be of huge importance politically, the Weekend Argus reported on Sunday.

No arrests have yet been made.

The Hout Bay police were not available for comment on Tuesday, but are investigating, the report added.
