Durban - The truck driver who stole an ambulance and crashed it into a restaurant after causing a fatal accident on Saturday night is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

A heavy goods truck driven by the man ploughed through an accident scene on the M7 near Sarnia, leaving a tow truck driver dead.

In the aftermath of the secondary crash, the truck driver is alleged to have commandeered the ambulance while medics frantically attended to the tow trucker who later succumbed to his injuries.

He was pursued from the scene and later crashed into a popular curry restaurant in Umbilo as he fled.

He was slightly injured and was attended to by medics before he was arrested and detained over the weekend.
