Anglo-Boer War grave robbed

Johannesburg - A grave at an Anglo-Boer War cemetery in Ladysmith was plundered by robbers, Amafa Heritage KwaZulu-Natal said on Sunday.

Amafa IT director James van Vuuren said its contractors were maintaining the Intombi Camp Military Cemetery last week when they discovered a broken headstone, and a two-metre hole in one of the graves.

"We don't know who the culprits are, but [we] believe they were looking for relics such as buttons and badges," he said.

"It's wasted effort on the part of the culprits, since this is a formal cemetery, and the personal effects of the dead would probably have been removed before burial."

A charge was laid with the police.

Van Vuuren said Amafa was offering a reward to anyone who had information that could lead to an arrest.

It is really sad that people will have the need to resorting to being grave robbers over buttons, badges and relics. It seems like vandalism of grave sites has become quite a pas time, first Chris Hani's now this. Perpetrators caught doing this should be sentenced to community service for life, digging graves.

Now now people, it's quite alright. The truth is when Zama leaves this place we civilized people call earth, she will be long forgotten within the same tax year. Zama still doesn't get it. The Afrikaners was forged out of blood, sweat and tears, and the Great Trek. We are the essence that Germany and Holland lacks. We are the the only race, that to date, has caused the biggest loss to the British Empire in War costs, casualties and shame. You may call us the Inglorious Bastards. Not even Kiplin's "Scorched Earth" policy could keep us down. Not even the fiercest Zulu onslaught deterred us. Do you think your stupid comments, or your racist attitude is if any value? O yes, and guess what, Kiplin died of a tsetse flea bite - there is the good old God and Holy Spirit backing us once more, jsut like justice prevailed at Blood River. I wonder. In all your glory of the "new improved" South Africa, what legacy has your people built? What prosperity tales will you be able to tell your children or grand children about? How the ANC was renowned for doing the best for it's people (the millions of poor on the street, that will suffer more in time to come), or the truth - how the ANC brought the country to its knees via corruption, greed, reverse-racism, murder, genocide (or so they tried), we'll be here the entire night with this list. It's a shame that you would chose to post such comments, but it shows your essence to the world. And it shows that we are a long way from Kansas.

Hans it was not Kiplings policy but Kitchener of Karthoom

I have not read such trash in a very long time. I don't know if this lightens up my Monday or completely ruins it. First: It's exactly this "Oh-we-are-the-Godly-chosen-white-Race"-BULLxxxt that get's me ashamed every time. Sorry, lad, it was a rough time those days with the Trekkers, but guess what? Migration has been part of human history for like...let's see: EVER. Nothing special about that. And absolutely NO REASON to come out to Africa and install a DISGRACEFUL PATHETIC PSEUDO RELIGIOUSLY FOUNDED SYSTEM to suppress the home folk. I completely agree with you on the fact that the ANC isn't doing a great job...but give the SA kiddies a chance (and I mean all of them!). As soon as people with idiotic thoughts like those in your Mail and the hate-ridden co-racism on the other side has finally died away - the future will be a happy, mixed and colourful South Africa. AND THAT'S WHAT I'LL BE PROUD OF!!!!

      Hans - 2012-05-21 09:48

Corncob - thx thought I had that wrong.

      Hans - 2012-05-21 11:01

Titani - "Trash is what's in your pants"

      Hans - 2012-05-21 11:52

Tinani - No we are not the God chosen race. We chose God as our Savior. They are doing no job Tinani. The fact is the ANC is doing the wrong things for the wrong reason. They do not share the vision that Nelson Mandela had for this country. Zuma "hurt" about a painting, while he is mum on farm murders where "kiddies" were violently killed in cold blood. The whole lot is corrupt. Then there is the element of taking away heritage and history from the Afrikaners. You know, we've been there before, it seems nobody reads history. We see it beginning again in the education department, where Afrikaans teachers etc. is looking at breaking away from the government curriculum. There is no faith in the SADF or SAPS. The only thing still going here is the Constitution, which they are desperately trying to change. Unfortunately the masses are to dim witted to realize they support the hand that takes food form their mouths. Did you see the Human Rights landed in Zim? Zim that was once the bread basket of Africa? What went wrong buddy? Your cononies happened. What was the first sign that the ANC took over? Potholes started appearing (first on the roads then the rest of the economy). Their entire reign is plastered with corruption, greed and ill management of time, power and decision making. Tsk tsk. As for the view of a healthy South Africa, I also share that, and by all means I would smash beer mugs on that day, my round.

      Tinani - 2012-05-21 12:23

Hans, I'll just ignore your first reaction - my pants are pretty ok, thank you very much! Now: The ANC IS corrupt - but not all "black" or "coloured" people. I am so sick and utterly gatvol for this whole "ons" en "hulle" twak. Things will only start picking up in South Africa once ALL South Africans realize that they are in one big beautiful and exceptional country. As long as there is seperation in the minds of the people, NOTHING WILL EVER GET BETTER . And I'm very happy for you if you have found your religious identity - but leave the politics out of it. Nothing good has ever come of mixing religion with politics, it basically ALWAYS leads to dictatorship and religious suppression because one group of people start believing they are something better or others are something worse because of their religion/skin-colour/long noses/big feet/blond hair & blue eyes (maak da nou ietsie plieng, my bra?) Nee wat, rather try and find what move and interest ALL South Africans families and try and get some common ground: Keeping the kids safe, keeping corruption out, having financial growth, social security..etc. and stop worrying about the outyd. All South Africans must find a new common identity and it automatically means ajusting the old views of things- this includes the Afrikaans people but also the Tswana and the Zulu people. One Love, Boetie!
