Angry crowd calls for 'child killer'

2012-01-09 13:03

Cape Town - A crowd gathered outside the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court in Cape Town on Monday where a 30-year-old mother confessed to murdering her 2-year-old son.

"We want Zulpha, we want Zulpha," the crowd chanted after the case against Zulpha Jacobs was postponed to February 16 for further investigation.

Magistrate Tom Cloete told Jacobs, who was wearing a black and yellow head scarf, that she would remain in custody until her next appearance.

Jacobs, who has been charged with murder and child abandonment in connection with the death of her son Tariq, nodded and kept her eyes down while Cloete addressed her.

She is being held in Pollsmoor Prison's medical section.

Tariq Jacobs is the third of her children, all of whom were aged 2 or younger, to have died in about a decade.

His body was found among bushes on dunes behind the Imperial Primary School in Beacon Valley on December 31.

Jacobs had reported Tariq missing.

She was arrested after she confessed to killing him.

They should react the same way when people deal in drugs in their community!!!

      Newsmonger - 2012-01-09 14:23

      madsipho - 2012-01-09 16:49

@Poloyatonki, and what is your job then, HUH?

  • Shirley - 2012-01-09 13:10

Let her out on bail-will save tax payer a whole lot of money!!!!

      Steven - 2012-01-09 13:12

      Cassandra - 2012-01-09 13:29

Are you MAD?! A person capable of (self confessed) murder you want on the streets? O well done!

      Jerolan - 2012-01-09 13:42

I assume that Shirley is suggesting she be let out on bail to have the community "deal with her" That is why tax payers money will be saved, rather than have a drawn out court affair

      Ross - 2012-01-09 13:42

I think you are missing the point Cassandra... Vigilante Justice is what they are after, not for her to be set free.

      spartanx93 - 2012-01-09 13:43

      MADNESS...... THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!

      madsipho - 2012-01-09 14:08

Mob Justice is always quick than our Kangaroo Courts, One day and the case is done...

      Deon - 2012-01-09 14:33

We need to build 100 more jails, to lock up the all "mob justice" people.

      Helen - 2012-01-10 11:15

Yes and perhaps "the people" can sterilize the vile miscreant. She's clearly a serial killer.

  • noeline.degee - 2012-01-09 13:17

This is absurd. I wish we had the death penalty for people like her. 3 kids murdered in a decade??? That's inhuman of her. She's heartless and doesn't deserve the title of "mother". If you don't want kids, abstain or condomise or use contraceptives!!!!! Sies man!

      Deon - 2012-01-09 13:30

She confessed to 1 murder only, we do not know how the other 2 died.

      noeline.degee - 2012-01-09 15:09

Fair enough. I just assumed that she's guilty of the other 2. Can't blame me though. Still, this is just heart breaking.

  • Wendy - 2012-01-09 13:19

Well best she stays in the tjoekie otherwise these people are gonna do some mob justice on her ass!

  • adrian.berghoff - 2012-01-09 13:22

    Hang her and be done.

  • Nasiefa - 2012-01-09 13:35

she's evil and heartless!!!!! how could she kill her child??? as a mother we want to love and protect our children what goes through your sick mind when u hurting your little baby ??? shame on you Zulpha Jacobs he was a baby a helpless baby.

  • nikkiduku - 2012-01-09 13:46

Horrible start to the end of the world that is 2012.

      Chum Scrubber - 2012-01-09 16:06

You guys keep on threatening the worlds gonna end, year after year? Be honest now, you really have no idea when it is gonna end. What does end mean anyway, does everything die or just humans, or does the whole planet disintegrate?

  • Moi - 2012-01-09 13:50

I'll never understand how a mother can willingly harm her own child...sickening.

  • rashaad880615 - 2012-01-09 13:58

No real sympathy for her because murder is murder but after reading how she had the support of no one and had been rejected by her family and was practically homeless i cant help but feel that what happened is entirely her fault. a crime has been committecd so she should be punished but prior to it happening there must have been warning signs as she was under severe stress .Why didnt her family help her even if only for the sake of the child

      rashaad880615 - 2012-01-09 14:01

      is not

  • Shirley - 2012-01-09 14:00

Cassandra: She wont be on the streets long!!!!! And no Im not mad! I just think she is an oxygen thief who will waste tax payers moneey by having a drawn out court case! An eye for an eye!

      madsipho - 2012-01-09 14:10

And the only way is the Mob Justice to deal with her..

  • Phumezo - 2012-01-09 14:25

When we examine the real root causes of these types of problems the answer boils down to two and that is poverty and a sense of helplessness. The DA in the Western Cape has not done much to aliviate poverty in the Western Cape and the real issues affecting woman. Jimmy Manyi was right in sayin that the Africans in general and colourds in particular need to move out of that province and know that South Africa as a whole belongs to them also. This issue of being over-concentrated there is not assisting them!

      Chum Scrubber - 2012-01-09 16:09

Mmm, yes Phumezo, I guess the ANC would be doing a much better job - I mean look at the fantastic example they set in the rest of the country. Careful, if all people of colour move out, you could end up with a white dominated province - nightmare ne?

      Deon - 2012-01-09 16:23

DA is doing something right as education is best in Western Cape.

  • Heini - 2012-01-09 14:36

What a tragedy......I almost feel the need to condone the crowds reactions....

  • widaad.daniels - 2012-01-09 14:41

she is mentally disturbed, as a mother could never harm her children in that manner. she'll most probly get LIFE behind bars i hope our justice system (which has failed so many in the past) will look at the harshes punishment to this women and also give life sentencess to those who hurt our children in other ways, for any wrongfull act towards our kids should be LIFE !!!!

  • Mona - 2012-01-09 17:06

I would love to know the reason why!

  • nspaynter - 2012-01-10 06:58

What absolute raw hate...... Is this really human? I know somebody who was arrested for a terrible crime. He also had crowds outside the court baying for his blood. I do not hate that man, I love him. I even hug him. As I do with other prisoners. Both he and Zulpha are loved by God, in spite of what they have done, or reputed to have done. Have you thought of praying for her?

      nspaynter - 2012-01-10 07:06

It reminds me of the neclacing of a few years back....
