Another cape cop arrested for rape

2013-07-19 18:21

Johannesburg - A police captain was arrested in Worcester for allegedly raping a 46-year-old woman in his official car, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said on Friday.

"The complainant alleges that on 20 June at about 23.30 she was raped by the suspect who was driving a marked SAPS vehicle while he was on duty," spokesperson Moses Dlamini said.

"The suspect allegedly threatened to shoot the victim and her son if she reported the matter to anyone which resulted in her not reporting it immediately after the incident."

He said the 46-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after the woman opened a case against him.

"The Ipid conducted an investigation and decided to arrest the suspect on the same day based on the evidence uncovered."

The man would appear in the Worcester Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of rape, Dlamini said.

I think it takes a "special" kind of person over and above your average criminal to rape random women, these are not the kind of guys who might steal an icecream or something like that only but hardened criminals. What is disturbing is how many of them seem to have infiltrated the police force where they can abuse their powers. Maybe we should consider lie detector tests for all police officers to find these rotten apples, I know they're not 100% reliable but it sure would help? The system of waiting for them to commit a crime and then trying to prosecute doesn't work, need to catch them before they can abuse their powers.

Instead of protecting the nation the nation feel unsafe around our police officers? It seems seems some people took this job for wrong reasons.Prison is where they belong to make our SAPS respected & trusted again.

Because of poor state of employment people take everything just to survive there is no passion, I hope the judges send a harsh panishment

  • Alex Inyanga Dowding - 2013-07-19 19:58

Another big blow to the credibility, integrity and image of the SAPS. Please just clean out all of the criminals in the service man. Jirre SAPS has a lot of dead wood by the look of things.

These are the kind of stories that make people loose faith in the police and that also reason people decide to take the law into their own hands. How are people supposed to trust the police when they turn around and violate that trust

  • Llewellyn Constable - 2013-07-19 21:28

Illicit affair that turned sour. He must know her very well because he even know she have a son. Wonder did he force her into the car. Even a stupid won't use a marked car with numbers that can be traced to him. Blackmail can't be overlooked.

  • WildCatSal - 2013-07-19 22:21

Unacceptable! Cops are supposed to lower the crime rate not contribute to raising it.. Idiot!

  • Werner Weber - 2013-07-20 07:20

I see a lot of comments here targeting all South African Police officers saying they are all corrupt. This is simply just not true. There are many bad apples but there are many good guys there as well. Many of these guys are hard working everyday men and women like you and I. They work with the resources they have and they try to do good in a bad situation.

  • George Chabalala - 2013-07-20 11:09

The police are human beings not saints, you allow a good guy today to be in the police tomorrow he change and do wrong things, let us not attack all police men as if they are all the same or we can do 100 persent if we were police officers, just attack the individual who did wrong things.

      Mpilo Pallo - 2013-08-25 02:03

they are human beings with mistakes, I agree but there is a special responsibility each police official is assigned with, as it is stated on the code of conduct of SAPS. Lastly, let's liv the matter to the law to prove this.
