2012-10-20 08:00

Johannesburg - Another police officer has been shot dead in Cape Town, SABC news reported on Friday.

He was shot in the chest in Philippi on the Cape Flats. He died on the scene.

This made him the fourth police officer to be killed in the Western Cape since 10 October.

On that day metro police officer Mpumelelo Xakekile, 50, was shot and killed while issuing a fine to a minibus taxi driver in Khayelitsha.

Two days later police constables Phindiwe Nikani, 26, and Mandisi Nduku, 27, were shot and killed while on patrol in the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Hout Bay.

On Tuesday a police officer was shot and wounded in Belhar.

Bring back a death penalty and stop this bloody madness!!! What is wrong with a Western Cape ??? Always in the Cape Flat.

      siphiwo.maurice - 2012-10-20 08:26

Sandor, the question should have been, what is wrong is SA?..These killings, be police and or ordinary citizens, is happening throughout the country. The rule of law is fast going down the drain. The time to debate about the bringing back of death penalty, is now. The delay on this, will see this country of ours, becoming a banana republic.

      eben.vanderrmerwe - 2012-10-20 10:27

The Western Cape is still part of South Africa you damm fool.these type of crimes has no link to the political agenda you are hinting towards.

      steveroodt - 2012-10-20 08:53

Take your Hand raise it above your shoulder. and with one swoop bring it down and knock the head off the spinal cord. pick up the head then donate it to bafana bafana to use for net practice. is that what you meant Nigel.

      michael.i.wright - 2012-10-20 13:17

No DS, I think he meant, Hand them a dose of 9mm para.

  • steve.hoare.982 - 2012-10-20 08:22

get the Hawks! onto to them - that should be a closed case soon

  • Ntobane Setabola - 2012-10-20 08:24

Uhmmm, sad indeed!\r\nThis new gang of cops called MaBeret(cops wearing berets)are the ones who also put lives of other cops in danger. Their duty is to harras (innocent)people everywhere n that sends a message to the youngsters that all police are bad.

      Jason - 2012-10-20 08:45

Those cops wearing Berets are the public order police, which is the old Internal Stability. Facts boet Facts!

      louis.langenhoven - 2012-10-20 09:00

nah Jason those are not facts- these are brand new guys, mostly youngsters, and sometimes seemingly on their own mission.

      buwaz - 2012-10-20 09:19

sebola ask urself how many of those amaberet have been killed? Those cops removed many guns on the street in a way that even their collegues n other seniors started hating them, during bheki cele those guys got empowered n worked hard by cleaning our street,i think u need to go to cele era n c the crime stats mayb u wil understand our laws is weak we nid tough cops to clean the street

  • terrylee.heuer - 2012-10-20 08:28

This is very sad it just seems to me that guns are so freely available on the streets just like drugs every criminal has one!!!!

      Earl O Tool - 2012-10-20 08:46

think about it for a moment, if everyone carried a gun. there would b less crime. the innocent would not b left defenseless. criminals would think twice b4 engaging in crime. these criminals who have murdered the police officers will b caught. and 4 the sake of the police officer's family, i hope they get caught soon. my condolences 2 the families

  • Leigh Nicholl - 2012-10-20 08:33

another reason why i am for the death penalty! every day the government makes it more and more appealing for criminals to commit crime! you can get free education in prison!

      terrylee.heuer - 2012-10-20 08:58

I agree Leigh wasting taxpayers money I wonder how much we spend on all these criminals everyday they are in jail??!!! And surely jails are now so overcrowded!!! Ag it makes me sick

  • rebecca.pooe - 2012-10-20 09:15

Gangsters in cape town think they are living in New York. Bheki Cele could have dealt better with this issue, where is the commisioner, last time i saw her she was tryng to justify the Marikana killings.

  • Theunis - 2012-10-20 09:17

I knew him, he was a good friend, a real stand up kind of guy. A massive family man and the SAPS has suffered a great loss. My condolences to his family and his team. All of us at the Phillipi Business Forum will be attending the funeral

  • dejaay.heineken - 2012-10-20 09:19

4 police officers shot within 10dys in cape town and dats declare war between them and criminals and I wonder wht does national commisioner said abt this and I think its time cape town saps reunite to win dis battle before its too late!its very sad and painfull to be enrmy of those ppl u declare unther oath to serve n protect them, are da one who is stabbing u at da back! Dis thing of police service will not work untill it goes back to police force!

  • gerry.gee.39 - 2012-10-20 09:25

Shot in the chest - if he was on duty, where was his vest which all on duty officers must wear? It may have saved him.

      Sbu Lassy Masilela - 2012-10-20 13:32

Gerry!!! 4 ur info not all Cop's have deir bullet vest due 2 a shortage of sizes

      Sbu Lassy Masilela - 2012-10-20 13:47

  • don.mug.3 - 2012-10-20 09:33

Advice:don't put too much faith on authorities, that's gambling with ur life rather WATCH UR OWN BACK, i mean, do whatever it takes to survive, U ONLY LIVE ONCE TO TELL THE TALE!

  • kimard - 2012-10-20 09:38

sick! they disarmed abiding citizens to get illegal guns for these filth! the volts are stripped of the "handed in" guns! get rid of the anc government - with that the fat pig ruling

  • roy.wadhams.1 - 2012-10-20 09:43

What is wrong with the SAPS. I was under the impression that there are always two men in a car and while the one approaches the suspect the other one stays by the car and when needed then reacts. They should do as is done elsewhere in the world.

      Theunis - 2012-10-20 10:03

Do you have any idea how quickly something like this happens. Before you judge what they did wrong, lets assume we don't know all the facts yet

      Sbu Lassy Masilela - 2012-10-20 14:12

tnx theunis!!! let us not b judgemental ppl will talk bt only 2 find dat dey have insufficient info abt what transpired

  • kitty2wp - 2012-10-20 09:51

The Government needs to speak to its people and explain that shooting a police person will be dealt with in the strictest terms. So many see a cop and all they see is a 'target'. There is no respect. The mentality in most other countries is that the police are the law and shooting him is like shooting your president. Why would anyone want to be a police person in SA. We are going to end up with no-one to protect us. already many police have turned to crime themselves because their bosses are no better. Our leaders need to give the SAPS their backing. Our police are up against everyone, they have so little support.

      kimard - 2012-10-20 10:01

the government is not functional - oh wait, they are!! for their own pockets - bugger the poor majority! same as zimbabwe and the same as most other africa countries - and the majority keep voting for them. are they (the poor) THAT gullible?

      lacrimose.wolf - 2012-10-20 11:57

Why does govt need to explain that killing a human being is wrong?

  • phae.rayden - 2012-10-20 10:18

These acts are extremely scary, it won't take much for it to become the fashion for other criminals to kill police as a means of escape. Nathi stop looking in your mirror and do something urgently to help! Put ANC's political aspirations to collapse the Western Cape aside, this is deadly serious.

  • steven.c.venter - 2012-10-20 10:20

You live in Africa now. Africa is, was and will always be lawless. The death penalty will never be reintroduced. They will loose to many ANC members.

  • tony.vanniekerk.35 - 2012-10-20 11:29

News24 has no reporters. They just hear stuff from other news channels and create their own stories.

  • Sakhiwo - 2012-10-20 13:38

Bring Ndosi the general Bheki Cele to stop this police killings

  • Andile Zide - 2012-10-20 14:33

its very shocking when people talk about politics while people are dying liker nobody care, lets all stand up and say stop police killing, and stop blaming police training, criminals they don't care if they die or what, they have no future. i vote for life sentence, just think *what if it was ur brother or sister* guys even the animals are protected, but when it comes to the police i don't know what makes people to think negative, one day it will be a member of ur family and what will u say?

  • rungano.pawandiwa - 2012-10-20 14:55

Bring back the death penalty thats the only solution to eye for an eye is the only solution otherwise wa rea heading to banana republic

  • rungano.pawandiwa - 2012-10-20 14:57

If caught they must die toooo

  • mthetheleli.ntshobololo.1 - 2012-10-20 15:34

Police officers, thier friends and South African courts have made a human life so cheap. There are killings that are celebrated in South Africa( criminals killed by police; criminals killed by mob; intruders killed by home owners)all these make life look so cheap. If somebody is killed whether in self defence or otherwise it should never be celebrated. Children now kill each other inside school premises over stupid arguments & parents wonder why, but they dont wonder when they kill in a form of mob justice. Even on this article there are brainless people who are calling for death penalty some are calling for heavy hand that police must use lethal force. Police may use lethal force, but we all know that they don't end there, that lethal force is also used on spouses & when that happens these fake psychologists and social workers will come & lie in the media about stressful work police officers are facing everyday. Human life is supposed to be respected, you kill in self defence, understandably so it should never be celebrated.

  • Theunis - 2012-10-20 18:03

W/O Moses killers were caught, one was shot dead and another arrested and is now in custody. Possible murder weapon was found in their possession

  • derek.bredenkamp.3 - 2012-10-21 08:38

Nobody asks the question why? Why is it that we have a society that has no respect, and in these cases even hates, our police force? Hates them enough to want to kill them? In my mind the police need to think carefully about their public image. If they brutalize the public in their quest for law and order they will get a brutal response.
