Durban - Staff at a Durban North business were lucky to escape unscathed after a cash-in-transit heist at their premises on Tuesday morning.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a gang of six armed robbers arrived in a white Audi and a white Toyota Yaris and held up security guards who were collecting cash at a business just after 09:00.

“The gang arrived as the guards were picking up the cash. No shots were fired and there were no injuries. The robbers fled with an undisclosed sum of cash,” he said.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the guard had been surrounded as he walked from the Caltex garage to his vehicle carrying a box full of money.

“At gunpoint the suspects removed the cash box containing an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene on foot. A case of armed robbery was opened at Greenwood Park SAPS and no arrests or recoveries have been made,” he said.

The service station owner Santosh Pardhootman declined to comment.
