Johannesburg - A Hillcrest man found with an assortment of explosives, firearms, and ammunition was released on bail on Wednesday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Brian Negus, 57, was granted R5 000 bail by the Pinetown Magistrate's Court, where he faced charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

He would be back in court on December 21.

Negus was arrested after three trunks containing handguns, R-5 and .303 assault rifles, stun grenades, anti-riot teargas, and illumination flares were recovered at his home in Waterfall on Friday.

Police were searching for documentary evidence in a fraud investigation when they found the arms cache.
