Johannesburg – A man who skipped bail after being accused of raping and murdering his 10-month-old baby has been found after five days on the run.

Eyewitness News reported on Tuesday that Adriaan Netto, 37, was arrested after he was found hiding in bushes in Krugersdorp on Monday afternoon.

Netto went missing last Thursday, shortly before judgment was due to be handed down in the case.

He and his partner, 34, are accused of subjecting their baby to long-term abuse. They both pleaded not guilty to all charges against them.

According to EWN, the baby's mother told authorities Netto stole their  transport money and fled three hours before the hearing was due to start.

The Star reported on Tuesday that Netto later duped his lawyer as well as the judge, the prosecutor and the investigating officer, into believing that he would hand himself in on Monday morning, but failed to arrive.

Baby Samantha (not her real name) died in March last year. A post-mortem revealed she was underweight and had numerous injuries, including fractured ribs and evidence of sexual assault.
