Pietermaritzburg - A man was killed and two others injured when a bakkie and a car collided head-on in Pietermaritzburg on Friday, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the accident happened around 01:00 on the R56 at Murray Road.

"The passenger who was seated in the front seat of the car was declared dead on the scene while the driver sustained serious injuries."

Jackson said the driver of the bakkie suffered minor injuries and both injured men were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The irony of this story is Shutterstock image of the beautifully stocked ambulance ... would that an SA provincial ambo looked like this and had paramedics who could use the equipment!
