Cape Town - The bail application of three men who allegedly killed a doorman outside a popular bar in Long Street, Cape Town, could not go ahead on Thursday morning because of a busy court roll.

Ubaid van der Bergh, Toufiq Essa and Nasbie Edwards appeared relaxed in casual clothes before Magistrate Joe Magele.

The court heard that there were two unrelated bail applications in the same case that had more priority because they had been on the roll for longer. Other courtrooms were packed to capacity.

The men would have to remain in custody until August 4.

Beerhouse on Long doorman Joe Louis Kazadi Kanyona, 33, was attacked by three men while standing outside the bar on Saturday, June 21.

Western Cape police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said officers had arrived to find Kanyona lying on the floor with a stab wound to his neck.

The accused were arrested after CCTV footage caught the incident on camera.
