THIS year’s 165th Royal Show promises to be fun-filled and jam-packed with a slight spin on the traditional annual show.

Of its 435 exhibitors, 66 will be brand new to the show, with a few old acts returning.

The Royal Show’s CEO, Terry Strachan, said he was excited about this year’s show and the mix of concerts and artists that would be performing.

“This year will be your traditional Royal Show but with a slant that differs from our previous show.

“I am excited about the whole mix of the show,” said Strachan.

In an overview of the show, Strachan said the focus will be on introducing a “town to country” feel.

Running for 165 years, the Royal Show is the largest agricultural show in Africa and hosts the largest display of construction materials and equipment in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Virtually every agriculture manufacturer will be at the show as well as lots of construction equipment,” he said.

Strachan said the event was privileged to host blue-chip operators such as the Dube Tradeport.

“These blue-chip operators only attend bigger shows and do not frequent your ordinary flea markets and shows. The fact that we fit the bill is a privilege.”

Strachan said the variety of music and exhibitions at this year’s Royal Show was exciting and he particularly looked forward to the entertainment line-up.

The line-up will include an array of musical mixes, including:

• Royal Gospel Concert featuring Khaya Mthethwa and Thulani Ga Ndlela and many more.

• The Royal Rock Concert featuring Matthew Mole, The Parlatones, Rowan Stuart and the Hinds Brothers.

• The Lotus FM Royal Show Afro-Fusion Night co-ordinated by Pinkie Mothi featuring Ramesh Hassan, Ashok Ramchundra and Sharmaine Deol among others.

• The Royal Symphony Concert, themed “London Calling”, with the full KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra.

• The RSG Concert featuring Bok van Blerk, Lianie May, Priscilla Smith and Emo Adams.

And for those of you who are not music fanatics, there are plenty of spectacular sights and events going on around the show grounds during the Royal Show, which include:

• A 60-metre zip-Line by Karkloof Canopy Tours.

• The much-anticipated Dinosaur exhibition.

• The return of the province’s largest fun-fair.

• Monster trucks demonstrations.

• A motorbikes to music show.

This year will prove to be exciting and fun for the whole family with new shows, artists and exhibitions
