Cape Town - Gerald Bloem and Selby Mbenenge have been recommended for judge positions in the Eastern Cape High Court.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced the recommendations on Wednesday afternoon, following three days of interviews in Cape Town.

Bloem and Mbenenge are senior counsel and have both served in acting positions in high courts.

They beat three other candidates to the positions.

The JSC has also recommended two candidates for the Supreme Court of Appeal, Judge Nambitha Dambuza and Judge Rammaka Mathopo.

The two were interviewed on Tuesday and were up against four other candidates.

Dambuza is an Eastern Cape High Court and Competitions Appeal Court judge. Mathopo is a judge in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

President Jacob Zuma is expected to consider the JSC's recommendations and make a final decision on whether to appoint the chosen candidates.

The JSC told media on Wednesday that it was expected to interview candidates for a Constitutional Court vacancy on July 9 and 10.
