Johannesburg - Police on Thursday confirmed they were investigating the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl from Bainsvlei in Bloemfontein.

Noeline Koekemoer's body was discovered in her bedroom by her mother on Tuesday evening, said Captain Chaka Marope.

The mother came home at around 18:00 and found her daughter strangled and bludgeoned to death, said Marope. It appears she was hit with a blunt object.

"Her body was lying in a pool of blood," said Marope.

When police arrived on scene they established that she had also been raped.

Her cellphone had been stolen.

Marope said the door to Koekemoer's bedroom had been locked from the outside and there were no signs of forced entry.

"No arrests had been made," he said.
