Bloemfontein - The Anglican priest accused of being in possession of child pornography and alleged indecent assault of a minor has resigned from his teaching post.

Chairman of the boys' school, St Andrew's in Bloemfontein, Sekhopi Malebo, confirmed on Wednesday that Father Michael Keep had resigned as a teacher and the school's chaplain following his disciplinary hearing at the school on Saturday.

The priest did not admit guilt, but said his resignation was in the interest of the school, Malebo said.

Keep had been suspended with salary since his arrest in February.

His disciplinary hearing on Saturday was postponed pending the outcome of criminal proceedings against him.

Malebo said the school board recently notified police about a boy who was allegedly indecently assaulted by Keep.

During Keep's previous court appearance last week the state indicated that a charge of indecent assault might be added to the case against him.

Keep was arrested after a police raid on his house. Photo albums, computer disks and videotapes of nude St Andrew's schoolboys and teachers were seized during the raid.

The pictures were allegedly taken during school camps, police said at the time.
