Bloemfontein - The owner of two popular pubs in Bloemfontein was granted bail after appearing in court on charges of rape and human trafficking.

The 46-year-old businessman, who can only be named after he has pleaded, appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and was released on R5 000 bail.

The man said in his bail application that liquor to the value of R30 000 has already disappeared since his arrest on Wednesday last week.

Besides the bail, he has to report to the Navalsig police station every Tuesday and Thursday. He is also forbidden to contact state witnesses.

He was arrested after a 23-year-old employee claimed that she had been raped in the toilet of one of the pubs last Wednesday.

The case was postponed to Tuesday next week.
