Port Elizabeth - The bodies of two men who fell into a river at Vensterhoek farm in Patensie during the recent flooding were recovered, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

The body of Mzukisi Gxekwa, 25, was the first to be spotted and retrieved by police divers from a river near Milton on Friday, said Warrant Officer Gerda Swart.

"Another body, of 60-year-old Daniel Mbeki, was also successfully recovered in the operation near Hankey," she said.

The two allegedly fell into the water while trying to cross the river on August 5.

Several attempts were made to recover their bodies since then.

They were only spotted on Friday when a search was conducted in a helicopter.
