Durban - The body of a missing fisherman was found by police divers on Friday morning after a lengthy search at Inanda Dam, near Durban.

Police search and rescue divers, with the aid of dog handlers and their specialised K9 partners, discovered the body of the man who is understood to have drowned while fishing on Wednesday.

It is understood that the man had been flung into the water when his small boat capsized.

Another man who also plunged into the icy water managed to swim to the shore and raise the alarm, which prompted the wide scale search.

The two are alleged to have been using an illegal gill net to catch fish in the dam and when they tried to pull their haul onto the boat, the small vessel capsized.

Police divers had raced to the scene and began searching for the missing man.

Their search continued for three days before his body was eventually found.

Police have opened an inquest docket in an effort to establish what led to the man’s death.
