Boeremag kingpin found guilty of treason

2012-07-26 15:37

Johannesburg - Boeremag leader Mike du Toit was found guilty of high treason in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Thursday, SABC news reported.

Judge Eben Jordaan said on Thursday Du Toit played a leading role in a plot to violently overthrow the African National Congress-led government.

Du Toit and his lawyer declined to comment.

At a previous court appearance, Jordaan said Du Toit was the author of a blueprint for a violent coup and had discussed the plan in detail with others.

Du Toit, a former university lecturer, was among the first of the 22 high treason accused to be arrested in April 2002.

They have been charged with high treason, murder, and attempted murder, as well as alternative charges ranging from sabotage and terrorism, to manufacturing explosives and the illegal possession of firearms.

The murder charge relates to a woman killed in 2002 while sleeping in a shack in Soweto, by a metal bar flung about 400m by a bomb blast at a railway line.

The attempted murder charge stems from a plan to kill former president Nelson Mandela.

      psalm.proverb.3 - 2012-07-27 11:06

@ Rofras, I agree 100%. Perhaps those who gave you thumb downs should also be jailed for supporting treason... Next the cops must arrest and the prosecutor needs to charge many of the ANC MPs with endangerment of lives (dysfunctional hospitals, poor water quality, etc), conspiracy and common purpose to murder, rape, assault, robbery, etc (for allowing criminals to run amok in SA and terrorise citizens), high treason and sedition, theft and misuse of taxes, etc. The list of charges could be endless in this regard. The reality is that while these Boeremag guys had the potential to cause civil war, the actual damage done by them is far less than the havoc wrought by the ANC cadres through their "governance".

      irene.buthelezi.1 - 2012-07-26 16:00

So you're quite happy that the ANC are doing just that are you?

      Werner - 2012-07-26 16:04

Sorry Azande, but what beautiful country are you referring to? I don't condone or agree with what they did and the punishment must come their way... But Beautiful country? With its TOTALLY corrupt government? Its savage population that rape? Its inhabitants that brutally murder the senior citizens? Its citizens that kill entire families in the most inhumane fashion including drowning a child in boiling water? Its judicial system allowing a criminal the needed medical treatment while innocent terminally ill people are made to wait? A government burning textbooks meant to educate the youth? A president that wants to justify spending Millions of taxpayers money on weddings and only responding with "It's a private matter"? A government wishing to destroy a national monument by evicting the people that maintain the entire town's economy? Allowing its ministers to dodge over R 200k in traffic fines? A government so incompetent that it's citizens have to resort to violent protests around service delivery? And these events were just this past week... Please enlighten me which "Beautiful Country" you are referring to?

      jowza1 - 2012-07-26 16:07

      are you defending him irene

      adam.gardener.12 - 2012-07-26 16:14

Werner you are so right, and it is shameful to think all you noted was only in the space of a week.

      jowza1 - 2012-07-26 16:16

so what is your alternative werner

      Werner - 2012-07-26 16:21

@Jowza1: Why should there even be a need to ask me about an alternative? This is OUR country. And we ALL (Black, white, grey, pink, blue, green) have a constitutional right to be safe here, to be treated fairly here, to have a democratically elected government that have OUR best interests at heart, not their own pockets... Your question is totally irrelevant!

      jowza1 - 2012-07-26 16:27

werner if you complain that much, you must have an alternative

      Werner - 2012-07-26 16:37

@Jowza1: NONE of us have an alternative... Our only hope is that the official opposition continue to gain momentum and continue their fantastic work to challenge those in power on the decision they make. Currently our government don't give a hoot about our well being... But the opposition are doing fantastic work in trying to protect our democratic constitutional rights. Added to this, Jowza1, surely you can not in your sober mind tell me that you are happy with the way things are happening in South Africa?

      azande.futhi - 2012-07-26 16:45

@werner, can I ask what are the things you are not happy about happening in this country? You seem to be implying that Jowza should be following a certain mindset and belief.

      Werner - 2012-07-26 16:48

@Azande: I'm going to respond in point form to your questions posed: 1. How many residences are still un-electrified? And how many of those with a cable running to it have zero electricity flow? 2. What % of houses the ANC has promised its supporters they would receive, have actually been built? And what are the levels of corruption prevalent in the RDP programmes across the ANC governed provinces? 3. Once again... The amount of people still sitting without these basic amenities far outweigh those few that have received these services since the ANC took over. 4. Visit this link, study the graph and tell me exactly when our economy was in shambles... 5. Who provides the financing for this infrastructure? Taxpayers... And rightfully so... What do the taxpayers get in return? Potholes, violent crimes in the shopping centres and on the trains. A government wanting to instil illegal tolling systems and exorbitant fuel levies to make even more money out of it's people. All of this to undoubtedly recover the embezzled tax money meant for this in the first place... So yeah... What else have you got??

      Werner - 2012-07-26 16:55

@Azande: Sorry man... Not a fan of repeating myself... My unhappiness is clearly shown in my comments in this thread... I'm not forcing Jowza1 to believe anything... He has a constitutional right to believe what he wants... Beauty of a democracy... My question to him was, the factual happenings I mentioned surrounding crimes etc. is surely not something he is comfortable with... If anybody is ok with these things happening, then surely they are part of the problem?

      antebellum.axiom - 2012-07-26 16:57

This is quite ironic... Terrorists condemning terrorists... I doubt that these guys will survive for 27 years in the new SA prisons though...nevermind living to be 94.

      azande.futhi - 2012-07-26 17:01

@werner, your first question what beautiful country am i referring to. I answered. Now, you turning for quantities delivered compared promised. I can answer that one too and you gonna turn to corruption etc etc. No man, just be frank. SA post 1994 is far more advanced and beautiful with many good things to point compared to pre 1994. Point is here, we would not have achieved this much had these bastards succeeded in their plot.

      Henk - 2012-07-26 17:08

And they will be out in 15 years!

      azande.futhi - 2012-07-26 17:13

@werner, i hear you. let me tell something, you can go any country in the world, you still gonna experience crimes, corruption and all bad things you can think of. Fact here is, SA is still a beautiful country with a lot of potential for better. We can't live in a myth that there is a purely problem free "fantacy country" out there. Stop cynic terndencies and start loving and appreciating this country and you will learn how to live in it.

      pjthesecond.eldest - 2012-07-26 20:50

I moved my family from the "Beautiful South Africa" to a safer country. This new country had a population of 34 million in 2010 and a total of 554 murders during the year of 2010. So 554 out of 34 million people were murdered. How does the "Beautiful South Africa" stack up to this?

      fanievanvuuren.heynz - 2012-07-27 08:55

LMAO this beautiful country was destroyed when the ANC came into ruling

      vracaza - 2012-07-27 10:23

WernerPretorius39: You make a compeling argument & u seem like a reasonable man. However I feel ur argument, is irrelevant here, u r arguing "out of context". Ok let me xplain what I am talking abt. Azande.Futhi says "he almost destroyed this beautiful country." then ou come & talk abt poor service delivery. Ok here is an example:U r married, u love ur wife & she loves u, then some1 does all he can 2 destroy ur marriage. Azande then says "he almost destroyed this beautiful marriage." Now that doesnt mean your marriage has no problems , it doesnt mean its perfect, but nonetheless your marriage works, & both u and ur wife r working on building a better future 4 urselves. So the problems with ur marriage dont take away its beauty.Get it? Ok I hope I havent lost u yet. Now back 2 this, yes we have poor service delivery, I am sure we can all admit2 that including Azande.Futhi. BUT thats not the debate here. The Headline talks abt treason & Boeramag. R u shifting focus from people who wanted 2 take over the country violently 2 now talking abt the downfalls of the govenment? Think abt this carefully, would u rather be living in Zimbabwe, Israel,Afganistan,Congo, Uganda? Do u constantly live in fear that a bomb may hit ur home? Do u fear of being shot while walking on the street?I dont think so, now dont you think Azande.Futhi's statement is in fact something to b happy abt? B4 u respond, jst sit back & think, what wud have happened 2 this country if Boeremag implmented their plans?

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-07-27 18:22

out of interest and technically speaking, is the death penalty still applicable for acts of high treason? it was done away with in the makwanyane case, however that was for murder.

      deon.louw.7505 - 2012-07-26 16:08

As far as I know FW suspended the death penalty in the early 1990's and ANC did not change it. - 2012-07-26 16:48

FW suspended the death penalty. It got abolished under Nelson. Its gone. I don't get either 'side' in this debate especially those having a go at the courts or those justifying their behaviour. These people have been found guilty of a serious crime. Transformation etc. does not come into it. Our judges are not the problem. Generally speaking when the correct evidence is presented our judges make good decisions. The bigger problem is that our prosecutors and police have done bad jobs proving their cases. Judges can only work on evidence that's in front of them. There is no justification for such action in a democratic society. The sentence will be severe but less severe than some think and more severe than some want.

However when a story goes out online like this, you see just how much hatred and devision there is!They should be punished no less or no more than a person of colour would be. If we want peace, stability and harmony in this country, then we have to start with equal justice. A person must be sentenced according to the severity of his crime-not his skin colour!

I can't believe some of the comments i'm reading from some of you people, these people are not, and will never be, anybody's heroes except the few who share their views. There's no place for people who are willing to perpetuate the monstrous acts of the apartheid government on innocent people without any remorse. Good riddance!

      Stlouis Heidtmann - 2012-07-26 17:34

anybody votes for anc these days aint innocent

Sinneloos, (StLouise) what a load of bull! waar in Oranje bly jy? Is daar a lughawe naaby jou? What is your reason for still being here? You are the type that make me want to finance a 'Jack Parow for President' campaign!

      merven.halo - 2012-07-27 09:54

@rude.awakning - if you vote ANC you support corruption, farm murders and racism.

  • Nyiks11 - 2012-07-26 17:21

There's a case of 3 guys who drowned a 12 year old boy in hot water after raping his mother and killing her and the dad , I wish they get put in the same cells as the boeremag ouens and let them sort each other out . May the best racist win

It is interesting to read people's comments here.If there is a story about Blacks, then most whites would be against and blacks would sympathise. If the story is abt Whites doing something wrong, most whites would sympathise and blacks would be against.Clearly racism is live and kicking in S.A everyday one gets to see it on this website. Can;t we take a step back and look at each case with its own merits then comments, it seems like everyone is pregrammed to defend their race regarless of what they have done. Its sad, realy sad. Now please go and read this Case Study regarding The Boeremag plan.It is titled "Ris of the Boeremag".it is pretty long and takes time to read.Just read the 1st few lines then you can come and comment here.We should always attempt to apply our minds nd not let our skin colour to blind us form the truth.Pls do urself a favour b4 u click unlike read here:

For your benefit: "DOCUMENT 12" refers to five phases culminating in the Boer forces taking over the country by force and establishing a Boer government. • Phase 1: Organisation phase During this phase the military wing of a new Boer government is established. Information is gathered on, inter alia, military installations, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), the cabinet and parliament with a view of taking over or destroying these institutions and other logistical and strategic key points. Boer personnel are identified to protect the country’s towns and cities, and other important key points which should not be destroyed. During this phase the Boers of the Western and Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal are informed where they should report for duty. Identifying flags and signs in the form of the Odal rune are produced (see box below).246 Phase 1 continues until the start of the Phase 2.

      vracaza - 2012-07-26 20:58

      • Phase 2: Creating chaos to achieve freedom of movement This phase is activated by black attacks on the white community, or a Boer attack on the country’s infrastructure to create widespread chaos (a Boer attack should appear to be the work of Jews or Muslims). The resulting chaos will allow the Boer forces to move freely and mobilise support without much government resistance.

      vracaza - 2012-07-26 20:59

      • Phase 3: Coup d’état During this phase the military wing of the Boer government comes into operation, and some 4,000 men are mobilised countrywide. The Odal rune—the battle insignia of the Boer forces—is displayed openly. This phase includes shutting down the electricity supply to the greater Johannesburg area and Bloemfontein for ten days, the elimination of Boer traitors, the takeover of Radio Pretoria, Radio Oranje and Radio Jakaranda, the takeover or destruction of SANDF and SAPS helicopters and aircraft, the looting of military and police ammunition stores, the takeover of all SANDF bases containing military vehicles, the takeover of the National Intelligence Agency’s headquarters and fuel depots, and the freeing of incarcerated right wingers and convicted apartheid-era police operatives.247 The railway line between Prieska and Lüderitz is safeguarded.

      vracaza - 2012-07-26 20:59

      • Phase 4: Occupation of secondary targets and expulsion of blacks During this phase the Boer forces take over secondary targets throughout the country, such as harbours and commercial airports, radio stations, telephone exchanges, water reservoirs, hospitals, engineering works, abattoirs and large shopping centres and food depots. Blacks and Indians will be told to leave the country or settle in KwaZulu-Natal. To entice blacks and Indians to do so, food will be made available along roads leading out of the country and to KwaZulu-Natal. At the same time black and Indian residential areas outside of KwaZulu-Natal will be bombarded to drive their inhabitants out of South Africa.

      rude.awakning - 2012-07-26 21:24

i must admit that i didnt pay much attention to this story from the start . And all but forgot that it even took place! Now that i read the extracts you posted, i am totally dumbstruct that they really had a plan with such detail! unbelievable!!! Robben Island would be too good for him!!!

      njabulo.jama.5 - 2012-07-27 00:08

Wow the extracts are insightful, wasnt even that interested in da story till now. But I think its sad hw deep da racial divisions are in this country

      dee.980 - 2012-07-27 01:12

Njabulo - I think many societies have extreme 'right wing' and extreme 'left wing' people. There are extremists from probably both ends of the spectrum in our own society - militant minded sociopaths. Reading this story about Boeremag brings back memories of my own fears of these people during the Apartheid era .... and I'm a white person. This year, I've felt similar stirrings of fear again listening to some really divisive & 'left wing' /anti-white talk by our present leaders. I think that continued problems being highlighted in governance will make this trend worse in times to come. And that is why regular, reasonable people have to make every effort to keep their humanity, avoid falling into the trend of this sites hateful and thoughtless commenting - and go on getting along. I hope this makes sense to you.

      merven.halo - 2012-07-27 09:59

@vracaza - with less than 100 (4,000 men are mobilized countrywide, yea right) supporters, how were they suppose to do all this? I can't believe that anyone took them seriously.

      bradley.kecskes - 2012-07-27 11:59

Man that sounds like alot of no I'd rather sit and play call of duty thank you very much *who has time to come up with this K*K in this day and age*
