Boeremag rift deepens

2012-08-02 16:33

Pretoria - The united front once shown by the 20 Boeremag treason trial accused has splintered to such an extent that many of them are no longer talking to one other.

Before judgment in the long-running trial began last week, one of the accused, medical doctor Lets Pretorius, spoke openly about a rift between the family and one of his sons, Kobus.

Pretorius and his sons Johan (also a qualified medical doctor), Kobus and Wilhelm are among the 20 Boeremag members accused of high treason.

In a radio interview, Pretorius blamed the rift on the influence of his son's psychologist Sonja Jordaan, and said he hoped it could be healed.

In a newspaper interview, he described the family as close-knit, patriotic and God-fearing, but not fanatical.

It was noticeable during recent proceedings that Kobus ignored his brothers, father and mother Minnie, and spoke only to Jordaan during breaks.

He openly refers to Jordaan and her husband as "mother and father" in court.

Pretorius was overheard angrily confronting Jordaan in court, and telling her that she would have to answer to God for what she had done.

Jordaan, who described herself as Kobus' spiritual adviser, handed a statement to the media this week in which Kobus bitterly distanced himself from his family.

He said the reason for his statement was the "untrue facts" his father had given about the rift in the family during a radio interview.

"I grew up in the home of Dr Lets and Mrs Minnie Pretorius. I was raised in a politically and religiously extremist and fanatical form.

"They handled me as a display piece of their 'education'.

"With the passing of time in jail, I started to free myself from their religious and political convictions and principles. They tried at all costs to keep me trapped in their beliefs, resulting in tension between us.

"I tried to keep family ties intact, despite our differences. They did not accept me and my new convictions. After my attempts to retain family ties failed, I have now finally severed all ties with them," he said.

Nine of the accused - brothers Mike and Andre du Toit, Rooikoos du Plessis, Adriaan van Wyk, Dion van den Heever, Magiel Burger, Jacques Olivier, Pieter van Deventer and Fritz Naude - have already been convicted of high treason.

The charge stems from a rightwing plot to violently overthrow the ANC government.

The plan entailed chasing all blacks and Indians out of the country after creating chaos, and replacing the government with rightwing Afrikaner military rule.

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-02 18:33

      Treason is not Murder ......

      claudia.meads - 2012-08-02 19:08

Most people who comment here have little- to NO idea what the proceedings are about or the history of the case. Inter alia, - This is little more than a Kangaroo Court. They were fatly denied the right to call certain witnesses. - The ANC is an illegal government; the ANC knows this. It is the reason they are using every means to discredit, divide, etc the individuals and ordinary people's opinion about what they are derogatory referred to as "BOERE". These people are not just 'farmers' - amongst other, they are medical doctors, etc. - You cannot simply hand over a country to someone else - as was the case around 1994. It is a fact, it has NOTHING to do with race, it is simply a legal fact. - Apartheid was declared a "crime", yet 'Apartheid' was NEVER found guilty of any crime or found guilty of ANYTHING, anywhere in any international court - this is in gross violation of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. - The entire "transition" around 1994 was an overt deception. F.W. de Klerk lied a in firm, unequivocal and absolute manner; he lied to the SADF (at the time), he lied to the people of SA about what was happening at the time and most of all what the ANC was (really) about. - The entire "transition" will not survive the scrutiny of a legitimate court for more than a few minutes. The ANC knows this and will use every means of insidious deceit to prevent it from happening. ETC This case must be taken to the International Criminal Court.

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-02 19:46

Kangaroo court ?? Why don't you commit treason and see if this Kangaroo court convicts you. Or off to Kangaroo land, If you are under the impression these god-fearing folk have a legitimate case here. We don't need delusion folk like these in RSA.

      jake.castleton.79 - 2012-08-03 00:36

@victor, haha you are just a joke son. get an education and get over apartheid same goes to all your little cadet wannnabeeessss!!!! Joker

  • azande.futhi - 2012-08-02 16:42

These people feared God? I'm sure its another "god".

      dhani.nel - 2012-08-02 17:21

It is another god. These guys are not well.

      aruan999 - 2012-08-02 18:44

pretorius, Snr, said he/they are "patriotic and God-fearing". I am not sure how their actions can be interpreted as patriotic, without consulting the rest of us how we feel and obtain a wider mandate. Re "God": God can be made anything. God is an IDEA. This makes it possible for earth-humans to model this IDEA-God to their way of thinking, desiring, instruction ie God is a handy tool to earth-humans! Herein God has been insulted to a war mongering, power hungry villain.> God is such an easy underling tool of earth-humans!

  • sello.molekwa.1 - 2012-08-02 16:42

Still beats me why normal family guys like them were so stupid to destroy their lives and families for something so impossible and ridiculous. Now they are going to jail for a very long time, for what?

      azande.futhi - 2012-08-02 16:48

idiocy gets inherited from generation to generation. it makes sense to me.

      azande.futhi - 2012-08-02 17:29

@kenny, u surely drawn your own conclusions from my comment. None of these boeremag guys is sick. Pity to Selebi was based on his state of health at his age. Its got nothing to do with black or white.

  • patrick.mampane - 2012-08-02 16:51

    A sad story indeed.

  • mqokeleli.mredlana - 2012-08-02 16:53

They mst talk 2 one another bcoz they deserve each other.i hope they rot in jail.we don't need people lyk them in this country.

  • njabs.ngcobo - 2012-08-02 16:53

Comes to prove that no matter what the reasoning behind it.... CRIME DOES NOT PAY!!! Regardless of colour or any walk of life.

      devon.riley.52 - 2012-08-02 17:28

Yeah that depends on wether you are in the ANC inner circle or not

      njabs.ngcobo - 2012-08-03 10:33

Maybe it has not caught up with them at this stage but i would like to believe their days are coming!!! NP did what they liked ANC is doing what they like but they will come a time to answer! Might not be today, tomorrow, or the next few years but it will come!

  • polelo.phokwane - 2012-08-02 16:55

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-02 17:22

Unfortunately they realize their hatred will eventually lead them this very position these foul treacherous traitors find themselves. The biggest problem detractors endure is denial, apology and finally reconciliation however the TRC robbed us of a proper examination of the past Crimes against humanity suffered in this country. Only then can we move forward as a United RSA.

  • themba.thwala.98 - 2012-08-02 17:21

Shame man, such unprecedented idiocy. They must each be put in single cells, which will give them enough time to reflect on their abnormal behaviour and hopefully change

  • Fanie Oosthuizen - 2012-08-02 17:32

Mandela also tried to destabilize SA in the past for which he was jailed. These people tried the same thing, it failed, they are found guilty and like Mandela, they will get a heavy sentence. Mandela had a lot more support for his actions than the Boeremag, but the fundamental principles of there actions or planned actions were the same.

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-02 17:54

Yes Yes , however the comparison ends there. Mandela was completing these acts with a heavy heart to bring freedom to all South African people, in the form of Democracy. Theses fools are plotting a coup against this Sovereign Democractic country...Hence the High Treason verdicts and may they all get the same lekkers.

      sandra.j.rennie - 2012-08-02 22:03

Fanie they must also get sent to Robben Island. And instead of planting gardens they must try and get rid of the rabbit population. And show the tourists what Robben Island looks like seeing that it's going to pot . That should keep them busy for 27 years!

  • boeretroos.redakteur - 2012-08-02 17:34

If the boeremag chaps are concidered against the state - then the DA should also be concidered against the state - they too want to take over the government - or what ? The ANC is very worried about its gravy ticket running out. Volkstaat. Send these chaps home they have been incarserated long enough already.

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-02 17:57

Seems you don't understand basic Politics. Not surprising unfortunately however the DA is the legal entity and main opposition party to the current government. THINK THINK THINK and do it that muscle....hehehehee

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-08-02 18:24

Boeretroos how did you escape when your friends were rounded up?

      jake.castleton.79 - 2012-08-03 00:38

      Victor hehehehehe yourself you spastic

      sandra.j.rennie - 2012-08-03 10:53

Boeretroos Don't be ridiculous. How on earth can a handful of right wingers Afrikaners overthrow the government? I am half an Afrikaner myself, but for heaven's sake get real man. This is not the Voortrekker days, it's 2012. Move with the times or to Oranje !

  • grace.kandetu - 2012-08-02 17:37

Chase blacks and indians out of the country? That was the plan? Really? I really hope they had a better plan than that, otherwise they've earned themselves life sentences for being stupid rather than dangerous.

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-02 17:57

      Agreed....nicely imparted.

      watsongeorgejan - 2012-08-02 18:04

In most instances academic qualifications don't necessarily manifest intellect. The thing is, intellect is inherent and academism enhances intellect. So, when intellect is nurtured and matured through academia we then talk of an educated person meaning, someone who can utilise data (information) effectively. Not all certificated people can do that or...

  • tapello - 2012-08-02 17:48

Isn't there a better topic to report on? How can 20guys overthrow Goverment? This stupid, and out of proportion....I'm dissapointed to my black brothers...jumpping at every opportunity to revenge. Haven't we learned from the leaders who had passed on?? These guys commited crime let the law take its course and remember everryone deserves a fair trial and a second chance. Stop Hatred!!l

      malusi.shumane.7 - 2012-08-02 17:59

How many people do you think are capable of doing that? Can't you even see that their weapons were capable of killing hundreds of people, destroying cities at the same time?

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-02 19:50

Stop hatred...we are with life sentences. Most undesirables where they belong.....behind bars

For about a year 2002 / 2003 I got harrassed when travellimg internationally. Every time I tried to leave the country customs thought I was one of these clowns. Clearly these Idiots were spawned from the stupid branch of the Pretoors family tree, doctors or not.

If I was President for a day, I would pardon these chaps after serving say 10 years. They will be by then totally cured of whatever evil befell them. Do I believe that they will pose a threat after that? Yes. They have a few idiots idolising them. But we can deal with that by tagging and house confinement. A chap who bombed ANC offices in Harare was released by Mugabe (on medical grounds). He can't even say 'A' anymore. Reformed.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-08-02 18:20

Remember how Eugene Terrblache said he had made black friends while in jail and no longer had issues with them. As soon as the bugger was released he went back to his old evil ways. Naaaah, releasing these guys will be too much of a risk, considering their foiled plans. I would release the guy who has repented though, based on the fact that he has severed ties with the parents who fed him racism all his life and he had time to realise the error of his ways

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-02 18:37

Well thank all that's good you ain't President, howevevr you are allowed to dream in a free RSA.

  • bongani.nsele.58 - 2012-08-02 18:35

they are right...these people are anti-african people by nature... the only problem is that you can't be anti-african in africa they missed the plane 18 years ago to go back to the hills of europe

  • phae.rayden - 2012-08-02 19:04

These people are deranged fools. Did the 20 of them, with the minimal support of some other idiots , believe they could take control of our country. They would have met resistance from not only Blacks and Indians, but Whites as well They might have managed to last 15mins after they made their first announcement. Embarrassing, dangerous people. This son sounds like he's pretty unstable, so maybe a psychiatric ward for him. Best the others stay in one cell together for a very long time, in 20 years we'll ask them if they still think it was such a cleaver idea.

  • howard.komati - 2012-08-02 19:05

Ths Boeremag think its those apartheid yrs whn they messed wth black peoples minds bt ths time they have it wrong let them start the war, we will start wth their kids they are fortunate we can still accomodate them bt the sad scenario is tht nt all whites are bad they are just like black we have very bad black people the least the government can do is to teach those arrested a lesson!

Ok since they are from pretoria let's give them one small township in pretoria to overthrow like attridgeville, lets see if they can drive all the blacks out of attridgeville. I bet 1 in 3 houses has a loaded gun in the townships. How much more about the 40 million black people scattered all over south africa? Planning the impossible.
