Durban - A man who posed as a doctor and promised to get people tenders at hospitals was arrested in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

"A 27-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in the Crompton hospital," Captain Thulani Zwane said.

The man, who often wore a stethoscope around his neck and a lab coat, allegedly conned more than 10 people by promising them tenders and jobs.

Zwane said the man would read job advertisements in print media and the internet, and then target business people.

"He would not ask for bribes directly but would offer to go represent them in meetings, and his victims would have to pay for his flights to Pretoria and expensive hotel accommodation," he said.

Zwane said it was not known how long the man had been conning people.

He promised his victims tenders to build a new Netcare hospital in Durban, a Netcare call centre, the procurement of Netcare uniforms, delivering of stationery to Netcare hospitals in the province, and catering at a hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

When the man was arrested police found him to be in possession of documents bearing fake logos of Netcare, the provincial department of health and banking institutions. He was also in possession of forged tender award letters, tender advertisements, employment letters and invoices.

The man would appear in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Sound like several cases of "Tender Blindness". It should no longer be "Love is Blind" it should now be "Greed is Blind".
