Johannesburg - Power in Boksburg CBD was on Sunday being restored to all areas that experienced outages over the past two days, the Ekurhuleni municipality said.

"The power is currently being restored gradually beginning with the CBD. It will be completely restored in all affected areas in the next three to four hours," spokesperson Themba Gadebe said in a statement.

Mayor Mondli Gungubele was thankful to residents for bearing the inconvenience.

"We know that it must have been a very tough weekend without power supply and we do not discount the inconvenience it has caused and the frustration it brought. However, we are grateful that nevertheless you remained patient. It is important that we emphasise that the municipality has your best interest at heart and even in the midst of the power challenges we dispatched our best team to respond to the challenge", Gungubele was quoted as saying.

Earlier, the municipality failed to meet its own deadline to restore power in the Boksburg area, saying the 9:00 deadline to restore power would not be met.

Gadebe said some of the work that needed to be done to restore the electricity would not be immediately executed because of safety risks.

Parkrand, Sunward Park, Freeway Park and parts of Boksburg east and the CBD had been without power since 07:00 on Saturday.

The outage was as a result of an explosion of the incoming circuit breaker from Eskom to Ekurhuleni.
