Boy, 14, kills another over territory

2012-11-05 14:19

Johannesburg - A 14-year-old boy from Machibini has been arrested for murder, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

The teen allegedly severely assaulted a 17-year-old boy during a territorial fight last Wednesday, Major Zamukulungisa Jozana said.

The older boy later died in hospital.

"These boys believe that when you are from one area, you can't come and socialise in another area. So the deceased was not from the area. That's what started the fight," Jozana said.

The teenager would appear in the Mqanduli Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a murder charge.

mpumelelo - Some of my tax money is tied up in that house which means I have a vested interest in the property as does every other tax paying citizen. Helen Zille is there on behalf of those of us who would like to know why our hard earned cash is being squandered. Clearly you don't pay tax otherwise you would be as miffed as the rest of us. The rest of what you said is the absolute rubbish that your masters spew forth everyday.

I'm not suprised this terrestrial war is heppining for thousands years ago in the former transkie Easten Cape. I grew up this thing heppening, its always been like this since from our forefothers.

  • mlungisi.mlangeni.5 - 2012-11-05 15:06

This thing has been there since my teen ages in the 80s and 90s - I really dont believe it's because of the government, it's just people with fd up mentality. Anyhow it's not new to South Africa, if you are or you've been a boy you'll know about these things - same as bullying at school = common problems of this world.

      mlungisi.mlangeni.5 - 2012-11-05 15:27

Well as far as i understand there is no dangerous weapon was used so I'll assume it was a fist fight that ended in tragedy.

  • sonwabile.nomnganga - 2012-11-05 15:18

This is a common thing with boys in some parts of eastern cape. Well i went through it too. I got beaten up and injured. I beat others up and injured a lot too. It was a usually thing for some boy to die and there was not court cases in our times. it's part of boyhood. i know i will be slammed by many but hey, i was just narrating my bit adding on to the story. it's part of boy's daily lives that side...

      sagin.verity - 2012-11-05 15:48

Its this kind of mentalitity i cant get my head around. How can You accept this as normal behaviour. Its gangsterism and terrorism all rolled into one. this is the mindset that is ruining our country. I firmly believe the proponents of apartheid recognised this inbred mental flaw. They were merely trying to save us from that which is now upon us.

      bobby.boon.18 - 2012-11-06 15:22

Maphala Am I right to assume that this is comonplace and aceptable by your people do you realize that is basically the same as racism. Is murder acepted as a normal everyday thing for you just to brush under the doormat (dont worry we kill and murder young children every day the mothers must just accept that that is what happens to thier own children!!) Do you not see that as wrong? It almost sounds like it does not bother you one bit. What if it was your son or brother would you go and kill the boy who killed him ??? If so then it is barbaric neanderthal behavior by todays standards Is life not a precious thing??

kids have way to much time on their hands.....send them to the army for a year...give them something real to think about, more than their petty little problems, like what area you come from.

  • tiaan.truter - 2012-11-05 15:43

A 14 year old boy.....Guess thats the African way Zuma ? Training to be a African warrior I guess

      maphala - 2012-11-05 17:03

Yes Zuma hasn't been doing what he should be but what does he have to do with this?

  • irma.white.9 - 2012-11-05 16:18

What a stupid reason to kill someone! I hope this boy actually goes to jail- if he can kill someone now (and he must be strong to kill an older boy, may the older one was weak) he can most certainly do it when he is older.

  • nico.leroux1 - 2012-11-05 16:18

So I was right! It is a culture thing!

  • maphala - 2012-11-05 17:00

Yes we all grew up with these things happening we not promoting it or anything but we know it happens. Most of you will not know simple because you never grew up in those places and are quick to judge and point fingers. All boys at diff places grew up playing diff 'games' Afrikaans boys used to ride bikes and carry donkipiers and imvubu who knows what they did to whom with thosse? Its none of our biz so did white boys with bats etc that's what it is diff acts associated with certain groups of ppl. Zuma isn't even close to being great yet he has nothing to do with this so is the government at large and parents for that matter these kids could still be going to school in the failing system we not denying it but they not at school 24/7.yes killing is never an intetion but once in a while it happens so what? God will deal with it not you.

      jomar.delange - 2012-11-05 17:05

"So what"? What if it was your son that died? You are a dangerous kind of idiot.

      maphala - 2012-11-05 17:12

I'm not going to stoop so low to your level! But what happens when some dies? We bury or cremate them ok?

      jomar.delange - 2012-11-05 17:15

So the life of this boy means nothing to you? Like I said. You are dangerous.

      jomar.delange - 2012-11-05 19:40

      1. Who is "u people"? Did I call you an animal? Do I know you? 2. Who is "us"? Are you related to this murderer? Were you involved in the crime?

  • Yandisa Rwaai - 2012-11-05 17:02

@Irma read the preceding posts from your white counterparts and tell me if there is not hatred... and do you now not expect hatred to be reciprocated to your race??!!

      jomar.delange - 2012-11-05 17:09

Those comments are from nasty people who blame an entire race for the actions of individuals. People like you.

  • johan.verwey - 2012-11-05 17:06

Isn't that apartheid? One from another area may not come and socialize with them from their area? "These boys believe that when you are from one area, you can't come and socialise in another area. So the deceased was not from the area. That's what started the fight," Jozana said.

  • jurgen.eksteen - 2012-11-13 19:01

A mere pissing contest (marking their territory) would have sufficed.

  • Mzamo Ntantiso - 2013-06-24 09:53

I can say with no fear that I despise the ANC-led government etc. But this incident has nothing to do with the ruling party. This is however a symptom of a very sick society and NO it's NOT a black phenomenon. It's a human condition borne out of a dysfunctional social system. It just happened most of those who find themselves in that predicament are Black!
