Johannesburg - A boy who was stabbed when his father was hijacked in Boksburg is doing well, his grandmother said on Tuesday.

''Everything is fine. They're both doing well,'' said the relieved woman. She asked that her name not be used so as to protect her grandson's privacy.

Speaking by phone from the hospital where the young victim was recovering after his ordeal, she expressed her gratitude to the nurses and staff who had been looking after him.

Police said the boy's father was hijacked by three men in Trichardt Road around 19:00 on Sunday when he stopped at a traffic light.

"They blocked his vehicle and pointed a firearm at him. He was then pushed out of the vehicle and the suspects drove away in the car while his son was still inside,'' said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

"The vehicle was later found abandoned and the injured boy was lying on the ground. He was immediately taken to the hospital," said Dlamini.

''He's going to be OK,'' his grandmother said of the ''adorable boy''.

On Tuesday afternoon Dlamini said police were still investigating and urged witnesses to come forward.
