Pietermaritzburg - Children younger than 10 are suspected of raping a little girl in Taylor’s Halt last week.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating “young boys” for involvement in the rape of the four-year-old. A case of rape was opened at the Taylor’s Halt police station after the child’s mother found her bleeding from her genitals.

“We can confirm that we are investigating a case of rape. It is quite a sensitive case, therefore the circumstances are quite confidential and cannot be discussed at this point,” said police spokesperson Constable Mtokozisi Ngobese.

The incident is believed to have taken place in the Zinqamu location last Tuesday, and was reported later that night.

The girl was taken to the Thuthuzela Centre in Edendale Hospital for medical treatment.

Ngobese said the case had been handed to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

He said more than one juvenile is being investigated.

“It is friends from the neighbourhood who are being investigated,” Ngobese added.
