Port Elizabeth - Two brothers lost their lives on Saturday after their light aircraft crashed at a farm in the Eastern Cape, police said on Saturday.

"They were brothers from Port Elizabeth and it looks like they were doing a practice run from and back to Port Elizabeth when the accident happened," said spokesperson Warrant Officer Marianette Olivier.

The Cessna 150 aircraft crashed at 09:40 on Saturday at the Fyfergat farm in the Kruisrivier area, killing the 35 and 37-year-old brothers.

Olivier said Civil Aviation Authorities members were expected on the scene later in the day to investigate the cause of the accident.

  • Andries - 2012-01-07 19:43

WO Olivier, what is a "practice run" between Port Elizabeth and back?

      Dmitri - 2012-01-08 07:01

@Andries, a practice run could be anything from testing the navigation equipment, cross country planning, fuel endurance etc. A C150 is a very old plane (before my time). I started on the C152 many many years ago. People also get confused between a practice run and a check ride. It could also have been in preperation for a check ride. To all those affected, my condolences. Hopefully where you are now, may you have blue skies and a tail wind.
