Durban - One person was killed and 34 were injured when a bus rear-ended a truck on Friday morning, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the bus appeared to have crashed into the back of the truck and overturned on the N3 near the Winterton off-ramp.

Two passengers were trapped in the wreckage when paramedics arrived at about 04:00.

"One of them had lost their life as a result of the injuries that they had sustained," she said.

Two of the 34 were critically injured and expected to be airlifted to Mediclinic in Pietermaritzburg, said Jackson.

The other 32 were treated for minor injuries on the scene before they were transported to hospital.

Police would investigate the cause of the accident, said Jackson.

Durban minibus taxi accident

Meanwhile, a woman was killed when a minibus taxi overturned on the N3 outside Durban on Friday morning.

"She suffered fatal injuries and was sadly declared dead on scene by paramedics. Her injuries had been too severe and no more could be done to save her life," said Jackson.

She said the woman was ejected from the taxi when it collided with another car.

"The taxi rolled after the collision took place and a woman believed to be in her 30s was ejected from the vehicle."

She said other passengers and those in the car, survived the collision with minor injuries only.

They were treated on scene and taken by ambulance to nearby medical facilities.
