Cape Town - Four men are on trial in the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town for the murder of two policemen, it was reported on Thursday.

The Cape Times reported that Ivuyile Sangovana, Khangelani Twala, Olwethu Sothondoshe and Sibusiso Mehlo would be back in court on Thursday, on charges of murder, hijacking, theft and attempted robbery.

They have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Gershwin Matthee, 39, and student Constable Cannon Cloete, were shot dead in Wallacedene on 22 May last year.

They had been on official duty in Kraaifontein when they were approached by a woman who said she had been raped. She took them to a shack where it apparently happened.

According to the report, a silver Yaris pulled up as the men were knocking on the shack door. The car occupants shot at the men, killing them both, and stole their firearms.
