Cape Town man missing in mountains

2012-09-07 14:02

Cape Town - A rescue team was searching on Friday for a man who failed to return from a walk in the Franschhoek mountains in the Western Cape, provincial emergency medical services said.

Spokesperson Keri Davids said a helicopter had been circling the area since 07:00 and a police dog was tracing the man's scent on the ground.

A team of 30 people were participating in the search.

The man, in his late 20's, went missing on Wednesday. He left the Denneguer Farm in Groendal in the early afternoon to walk up the mountain.

Davids said family members contacted emergency services on Thursday night when the man had not returned.

"Locals from a nearby community have informed us that they passed the man on his way to the mountain, warning him not to continue at that late hour.

"However, he gave them some of his belongings and continued."

.....'He gave them some of his belongings.' ? That doesn't sound right. Sounds more like they were found with something of his and that was their explanation. Will pray for his safe return.

      My thoughts exactly.

How can you people write such horrible stories about a person you don't even know? You don't know the whole story only what they have reported. Have some consideration for his family and friends who have to read the story and see your rude comments! Have some respect!

@ Wayne, because 'people' like Zeepolar were born without a brain, and talks before he thinks.

      waynemegganw - 2012-09-07 15:38

How do you know he wasn't lost or doesn't know the area so well? People hike alone all the time its not uncommon. If you don't know the full story-just stop being mean!

@zeepolar...all you are doing by commenting repeatedly is showing people on a public forum how incredibly ignorant you are.

Oh dear Lord please direct the rescue team to where he is I can only imagine what his friends and family are going through but God is still on the throne everything will be alright...

I know the individual personally and am simply nauseated by some of the heartless comments that get so casually thrown around. This guy is one of the gentlest most generous people I've ever known. It would not be out of character for him to give some of his possessions away. From what I've heard one of the items recovered was his Bible. What mugger, let alone murderer, would steal a Bible! I'm amazed about how quickly we go for the most gloomy scenario. If that's what we call "realism" its not surprising the sad state our beloved country is in.

They tell him that and he decides to hand them his it me???

I know this man personally and I am shocked and disgusted by the horrible and negative comments that I have read. If you were the one missing I am very sure that you would want everyone to do everythin they can to find you.this man is so very loved, something that is obviously missing in a lot of these people that have such terrible comments. I pray that they find him alive and well. My thoughts go out to his loved ones during this time.

Please GOD keep Him safe until they find him.

  • melanie.dumbrell - 2012-09-07 16:59

Our prayers are with him. May these fools commenting so negatively never have to endure what his family is going through at the moment.

  • natalie.cree - 2012-09-07 17:38

Sending only positive thoughts to this mans family and friends. There are many people thinking of you and we only wish for him to be found safely soon.

  • waynemegganw - 2012-09-08 21:21

I just dnt get it how people can still can carry on writing such rude things about him! You don't know him or what he(or his family) is/was going thru so how can you judge?who are you to? Has no one ever learnt if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all? Go and channel all your rudeness and horrible comments on bigger things in life! Really now people!he is cared for and loved by many-no matter what you try say its not going to change!!

      waynemegganw - 2012-09-08 21:44

Its written in general! Who are you to be saying all these things thou? Its not neccessary to be so harsh no matter what happened? Why are you trying to make what happened so public where its not even your place to? As the other guy said I'm sure between him and his family it will be done the correct way?

  • caron.vanderwalt - 2012-09-08 22:14

So happy he is safe! He is such a kind, lovely man who has the respect and love of the many children he coaches. Those tennis Courts would never be the same if he were gone!

Julian - really bad idea to put your 2cents in where you have zero knowledge. I can send you my entire portfolio of what I have been doing, if you're that interested...

  • louisa.crook - 2012-09-09 14:09

    Julian - I don't even know where to begin. So I won't.
